Lewisburg, PA – The Wagner College men's water polo team embarks on the inaugural Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship Friday, November 18 at 4:30 p.m. against Fordham University. Held at Kinney Natatorium on the campus of Bucknell University, the Green & White will be joined by the remaining five members of the MAWPC East Region as well as Mercyhurst University and Connecticut College from the West Region.

The Match-Up
The Green & White is 1-1 on the season against local New York City rival Fordham, winning the first contest 11-10 in the Bronx on October 13. The Seahawks were led offensively by junior utility Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia/St. Aloysius [Golden West College]) who tallied a game-high five markers. In addition, freshman goalie Joseph Ferraro (Newport Beach, CA/Newport Harbor) registered ten saves, including a paramount save with ten seconds left in the opening quarter to keep the Seahawks within one goal before sparking a 3-0 run, to earn MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week.

The second meeting between the two teams proved to be another back-and-forth tilt before the Rams took a two point lead early in the final stanza to defeat Wagner 8-6. Despite a hat-trick from sophomore utility Devin O'Donnell (Point-Claire, Quebec/Selwyn [San Diego Mesa College]) and four steals from freshman standout Oscar Nomura (Irvine, CA/Irvine), the Seahawks were unable to overcome the Rams' offense, which saw goals from six different players.

Scouting the Fordham Rams
The Maroon & White ended its season winners four of five of its final contests. After defeating Iona 10-3 on October 26, the Rams secured two more victories over Mercyhurst and Salem International on senior day before defeating Wagner 8-6 in a midweek match-up. The top seeded Bucknell Bison snapped the Rams' four-match win streak despite a season-high eight goals from Fordham's freshman Jake Miller-Tolt. The Seahawks were able to hold Miller-Tolt to just one goal in their first meeting with the Rams, however, the California high school standout netted three in the second showdown.

Tournament Seeding
After accumulating a 3-7 conference record, Wagner enters the eight-team tournament as the No. 5 seed. The neophyte team's three MAWPC wins came over Johns Hopkins University (October 1), the United States Naval Academy (October 2), and Fordham University (October 13).

Host institution Bucknell University will be the No. 1 seeded team after claiming the inaugural MAWPC regular season title with a 9-1 record. The Bison's single loss came from George Washington University (8-2) who finished the season in second place. Johns Hopkins University and Fordham University tied with 4-6 conference records, but the Blue Jays won the tie breaker to claim the No. 3 seed. Rounding out the field is MAWPC West Region members, Mercyhurst University and Connecticut College at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively. Both Mercyhurst and Connecticut earned berths to the MAWPC Championship after finishing one-two in the West Region tournament.

Tournament Schedule
The Green & White will play a total of three games throughout the inaugural tournament. If the Seahawks defeat Fordham, they will play the winner of Game 1 between No. 1 Bucknell University and No.8 Connecticut College at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 19. However, if the Seahawks lose to the Rams, they will face the loser of Game 1 at 1:30 p.m.

NCAA Tournament at Stake
The victor of the tournament earns an automatic berth to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men's Water Polo Championship held at the Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley, California from December 2-4. The MAWPC is one of five men's water polo conferences competing this weekend with an automatic berth at stake. In addition, two at-large bids will be up for the taking to complete the seven team field.
