Men's Water Polo Suffers 13-10 Loss to MIT

Boston, MA – The Wagner men's water polo team dropped another close matchup to Division III No. 7 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), losing by a count of 13-10.

The Engineers registered the first goal less than one minute into the game to take an early 1-0 lead over the first-year team. Despite a goal from freshman driver Matthew Miller (San Ramon, CA/California High), MIT senior Kelly McGee would record his second strike of the contest to give the Engineers a 2-1 lead into the second stanza.

After an early goal by freshman driver Oscar Nomura (Irvine, CA/Irvine), MIT tallied three consecutive markers to open up a three point advantage over the Seahawks. Freshman 2-meter guard Danny Rafael (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City) ended the Engineers' 3-0 run draining one into the back of the net with 46 seconds on the clock. However, MIT recorded another goal in the final seconds of the half as the Seahawks trailed 6-3 heading into intermission.

Miller opened up the second half with his second goal of the contest to close the Seahawks' deficit to two points. After the Engineers' went on another 3-0 run, the Green & White ended the quarter netting four unanswered goals. Nomura ignited the Seahawks' four goal streak halfway through the period to register his second tally of the day.

Entering the final stanza trailing 9-8, junior utility Ciaran Wolohan (Manly, Australia/St. Aloysius College/Golden West College) fired his second marker to tie the tilt 9-9. Despite another goal by the Golden West transfer, the Seahawks late offense wasn't enough to overcome Division III No. 7 MIT.

Wagner (7-14) travels to Santa Clara, CA October 22-23 to compete in their first west coast tournament, the Santa Clara Rodeo. The Green & White will play host institute, Santa Clara University on Saturday, October 22 at 11:40 am (PST) followed by a game at 3:40 pm (PST) against University of California Davis.
