Water Polo To Battle Marist In The MAAC Championship Today At 2:00 PM

Poughkeepsie, NY – The #19 Wagner (24-8, 10-2 MAAC) women's water polo team will square-off with Marist (20-14, 11-1 MAAC) in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship game today, Sunday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m.

Wagner enters the final as the #2 seed in the conference after compiling a 10-2 league mark as Marist was awarded the #1 seed after an 11-1 regular season conference record.

The Seahawks and Red Foxes faced-off three times in the regular season with the Seahawks claiming two wins as they bested Marist 9-5 in the opening game of the season at the Indiana Invitational and by a score of 15-9 in the first conference matchup between the squads. Marist edged Wagner by a score of 11-9 in the most recent contest between the teams on April 11, a game which sealed the #1 seed for the Red Foxes.

Wagner defeated Iona by a score of 18-12 in the semifinals while Marist handled Villanova by a count of 15-9 to set up the fourth installment this season and a rematch of last season's championship contest.

This will be the fifth consecutive MAAC championship appearance for the Seahawks under head coach Chris Radmonovich. The Green & White defeated Marist a season ago in the final by a score of 9-7 as they dropped their three previous final appearances in close games to Iona with each game decided by no more than two goals.

Wagner has been led by a potent offensive attack posting a goals per game average of 12.97 on the season. The offense is led by MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia, Mountain Creek) who now leads the conference in both points and goals with an astonishing 169 points through 32 games as she has found the back of the net 112 times. 

The defense is anchored by the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta/ Dr. E.P. Scarlett) who has amassed 206 saves on the season while posting a .479 save percentage on her way to earning five Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Scouting Marist

The Red Foxes offensive is led by Amanda Amorosa who finished second in the league in points and fourth in goals as she totaled 134 points and 87 goals. 

The defense is led by goalie Skylar Henry who posted the second most saves in the MAAC with 299 while recording a save percentage of .571 on the season.
