Results

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner men's tennis team concluded its regular season on Monday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over Rider University at the Wagner Tennis Courts.

The Seahawks finish the regular season with a 13-9 and a 3-2 mark in the Northeast Conference (NEC).  The Broncs fall to 1-16 and will take on fellow NEC member, Sacred Heart on Thursday, April 16.

Wagner swept all three doubles matches to secure the first point of the overall match as freshman Ryan Khan (Weston, FL/University School) and sophomore Sam Flaxman (Avon, CT/Avon) edged Chris Popso/Ahmed Al-Shawafi, 8-6, in #1 Flight doubles.  In #2 doubles, the pairing of freshmen Allen Wang (Clovis, CA/Buchanan) and three-time NEC Rookie of the Week/Month selection Michal Rolski (Kielczow, Poland/Oak Meadow [VT]) bested the pairing of Adam Levi/Matthew Begley, 8-1.  Jakob Mostyn-Kolb (Melbourne, FL/Melbourne) and Jeremy Nuss (Portland, OR/Lincoln) outlasted Agaazi Berhane/Jeremy Van Herwarde, 8-5, in #3 doubles action.

Khan shutout Levin in #2 singles to improve to 13-9 on the season.  Rolski secured a straight set decision over Popso, 6-1; 6-2 in #1 singles to bump his overall record to 17-8 and 10-5 out of the first position.  Wang sealed the match for the Green & White at #6 as he became the fourth Seahawk to post a double-digit win total as he defeated Berhane, 6-0; 6-1, for his tenth overall win of the year.  Flaxman followed suit with his tenth victory of the season as he posted a 6-4; 6-2 triumph over Van Herwarde in #5.

The Seahawks will now turn their attention to the upcoming NEC Championships, which will commence on April 17 through April 19.  Wagner will be the #5 seed as they will take on the #4 seed, Mount St. Mary's in the opening round.  The winner of that match will go on to play the top-overall seed, Bryant University.
