Water Polo Preps For Senior Day And The Final Weekend Of The MAAC Regular Season

Staten Island, NY – The #19 Wagner (20-7, 7-1) women's water polo team preps for the final weekend of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play as they are set to travel to Iona on Saturday, April 11 and will host MAAC Day on Sunday, April 12.

The Seahawks will begin the weekend trailing only Marist (17-12, 9-1) in the conference standings as the Red Foxes have posted a 9-1 league mark to this point as the Green & White have registered a 7-1 MAAC record.  If the Seahawks win their remaining four conference games they will be crowned as the regular season MAAC Champions.

Wagner begins play with VMI (9-13, 3-5) on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. followed by its third showdown of the season with Marist at 5:30 p.m.  The Seahawks captured hard-fought victories in the previous two meetings by a score of 9-5 and 15-9.

The Seahawks will serve host to five MAAC institutions on Sunday as the Green & White are scheduled to compete against Iona (19-12, 5-3) at noon and St. Francis Brooklyn (5-20, 1-7) at 5:30 p.m. which will serve as the team's senior game.

Prior to the opening sprint Wagner will honor senior's Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA/ St. Mary's), Rachel Burns (Auckland, New Zealand/ Diocesan), and Michelle Greenough (Davis, CA/ Davis) who have accumulated the most wins in a four-year span of any class in program history as they have totaled 91 wins to this point.  The senior class has spearheaded the academic success that the team has shared over the years as each senior is a two-time member of the All-MAAC Academic Team and has helped the squad earn the Association of College Water Polo Coaches highest GPA in the nation honor three years running.

Burdge is second in program history with 268 career goals and holds the single season records for most goals in a season with 115 and sprints won in a season with 51.

Burns is second in program history with 220 exclusions drawn while placing third in assists with 205 and steals with 214.

Greenough is ninth in program history with 110 assists while seeing action in 135 career games.
