Score Sheet

Davis, CA – The Wagner women's water polo team was involved in another tight, low scoring affair as they dropped a 5-3 decision to #17 (T) UC Santa Barbara on the final day of the Aggie Invitational.

The Gauchos had the distinction of sharing the 17th ranking in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) poll with the Green & White. The loss marks the first time this season the Seahawks have dropped back-to-back contests as their record falls to 7-4 while UC Santa Barbara improves to 12-12.

The Seahawks rounded out the Aggie Invitational with a 1-2 record having defeated #14 Pacific 6-4 and narrowly falling to #10 UC Davis 5-4.

The opportunities in the first quarter were even however it was UC Santa Barbara who delivered three scores in the opening stanza. The Seahawks out-shot the Gauchos 6-4 in the quarter but a pair of goals from Sophie Trabucco and a last second goal from Taylor Shore placed the Gauchos up 3-0 after one.

Senior co-captain Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA/ St. Mary's) registered the first score for the Green & White as she hammered in a man-up goal off an assist from Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia/ Mountain Creek) with 3:18 left in the second period.  The Seahawks had three more shots on net but Gaucho's goalie Mackenzie Brokaw was up to the task once again she blocked all three opportunities. UC
Santa Barbara rode their hot goalie into the half as they held a 3-1 advantage.

Junior center Lundgren recorded a quick strike goal off a great pass from Michelle Greenough (Davis, CA/ Davis) approximately one minute into the third quarter as the Seahawks had a comeback in mind. Both teams failed to muster up more than a handful of shots on net and Wagner trailed by a lone goal with a quarter to play.

UC Santa Barbara tallied two goals in the first two and half minutes of the fourth to regain their three goal lead with 5:39 left in regulation. Burdge delivered a strike again off an assist from Lundgren with 3:21 remaining, giving the Seahawks the spark they needed. UC Santa Barbara goalie Brokaw was locked in as she blocked the shot that would've cut the deficit to one with still 2:39 remaining in the fourth. The Gauchos were able to kill the rest of the game clock and pull out the 5-3 victory over the Green & White.
