ResultsPhiladelphia, PA- The Wagner men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision this morning to the Drexel University Dragons. With the loss, the Seahawks now stand at 7-4 on the season while the Dragons improve to 10-5 on the year.
For the first time this season, Wagner was swept in doubles action with the duo of reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Player and Rookie of the Month
Michal Rolski (Kielczow, Polan/Oak Meadow [VT]) and
Juan Alanis (Mexico City, Mexico/K12 International Academy) suffering their first defeat as a pair, falling to the tandem of Alex Fioravante and Xabier Saavedra.
In #2 doubles,
Ryan Khan (Weston, FL/University School) and
Allen Wang (Clovis, CA/Buchanan) were defeated by the pair of Kashyap Ashok and Dan Koehler, 6-1 while
Sam Flaxman (Avon, CT/Avon) and
Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) fell in #3 action to Badr Ouabdelmoumen and Daniel Hansen, 6-2.
In singles action, Rolski improved to 7-1 in dual matches and runs his unbeaten streak to six straight as he defeated Ouabdelmoumen, 7-6 (7-5); 6-4 in Flight #1 to get Wagner on the board in the overall match.
In Flight #2, Alanis took the first set, 3-6. Ashok took the second set, 6-1, forcing a third set. After a back-and-forth affair, Ashok took the victory edging Alanis in the tiebreaker, 9-7.
Khan secured the second win of the morning for the Green & White, defeating Fioravante, 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (3-7), 6-2. With the win, Khan snaps a three-match losing skid.
Drexel proceeded to take #4, #5, #6 with the Dragons clinching the overall victory in #5 singles, as Laalej defeated freshman
Jakob Mostyn-Kolb, 6-2; 6-2.
Wagner will be back in action on March 14
th as they welcome Northern Kentucky to Staten Island for an 11:00 am start.
