NEC ReleaseCambridge, MA – The Wagner College women's swimming & diving team won three of the six events on the third night of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships, and broke both a school and a NEC record, as the Seahawks head into Satuday's final day of competition in second place, with 508 points, trailing first-place Central Connecticut who leads with 536 points.
Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/ Easthampton) led the Seahawks by breaking two records, while walking to the top of podium twice in back-to-back events. The junior native broke the NEC record with a time of 4:21.62 in the 400 IM, taking first place honors in this event for the third straight season. This personal best time also shattered the school record that Lucia had set earlier in the season.
But Lucia wasn't finished yet, as she took her gold medal from the 400 IM and headed behind the blocks for the next event, the 100 Fly, where she was also seated first in after her performance in prelims earlier that morning. She touched the wall in a 55.04 and returned back to the top of the podium.
Sophomore
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI/ Hawaii Preparatory Academy) followed suit in the 100 Back, defending her title, touching the wall first with a time of 53.79. Junior
Erin Malone (Sewell, NJ/ Washington Township) made her podium debut, claiming third place with a time of 56.93.
The 400 Medley Relay team of Nihipali, sophomore
Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA/ Troy), senior

Kristine Sullivan (Overland Park, NY/ Pelham) took second place in the final event of the evening, clocking in at 3:15.16.
