Cambridge, MA – The Wagner College women's swimming & diving team broke a school record on the first night of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships Wednesday evening.
The 200 Medley relay team comprised of sophomores
Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI/ Hawaii Preparatory Academy) and
Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA/ Troy), along with senior
Samantha Sides (Cherry Hill, NJ/ Cherry Hill East) and junior
Corinne Rondina (Staten Island, NY/ Notre Dame Academy) placed second overall, shattering the school record by over a second with a time of 1:42.61.
In the final event of the evening, the 800 Freestyle relay squad, made up of freshmen
Maddie McNichol (Downington, PA/ Henderson) and
Kristine Sullivan (Overland Park, KS/ Notre Dame di Sion) along with juniors
Maggie Shaw (Chantilly, VA/ Chantilly) and
Amanda Lucia (Easthampton, MA/ Easthampton) all posted personal best times in their respective legs of the race to finish second in the event in with a time of 7:31.61.
After the first night of competition, the Seahawks are second in standings with 68 points. CCSU leads by a slim 12-points, giving the Blue Devils a total of 80 points going into day two of NEC Championships.
The action continues tomorrow morning (Feb. 26) for the preliminaries of the 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, 200 Free Relay and 1-Meter Diving at 11:00 a.m.
