Fairfax, VA - The final game of a season-long four-game road trip finds Wagner in Fairfax, VA as the Seahawks tangle with the George Mason University Patriots of the Atlantic 10 Conference on this afternoon at 12:00 p.m. at the EagleBank Arena.

The Green & White are coming off of a three-game stretch against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) schools, in which they posted a 2-1 record, most recently, picking up a 76-64 victory over the Fairfield University Stags on Friday evening from Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, CT. Wagner (6-3) began its three-game MAAC tour with a 65-64 win at Rider (12/8), which was followed by a 73-54 loss at surging Monmouth (12/13).

The Patriots (5-7), meanwhile wrap up a two-game homestand against the Seahawks after defeating the Longwood Lancers, 75-70, on Saturday evening.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The contest between the Seahawks and the Patriots is only the second-ever between the schools.  The only other time these two programs met was back on December 29, 1983, as part of the Utica College/Matts Classic in which Mason defeated Wagner, 89-77.

LAST TIME OUT FOR WAGNER:
  • On the strength of a season-high 13 made three-pointers from five different players, Wagner earned a 76-64 victory over its third and final Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent, the Fairfield University Stags, on Friday evening at Webster Bank Arena.
  • Two Seahawks paved the way, scoring in double figures, led by sophomore guard Corey Henson (Upper Marlboro, MD/DeMatha Catholic), who tallied a game-high 18 points, which included a career-best 6-of-6 from three-point range.  Junior guard Michael Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Lamar Consolidated [San Jacinto College]) posted his second career "double-double," finishing with 16 points and 13 rebounds, each of which are career highs.
  • Redshirt senior guard Dwaun Anderson (Suttons Bay, MI/Suttons Bay [Michigan State]) and sophomore guard Aaren Edmead (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) added nine points apiece while graduate forward Henry Brooks (New Orleans, LA/Miller Grove [University of Pennsylvania]) chipped in with eight points.
  • After a slow start from the Seahawk offense where they converted just 26.6 percent from the field (8-of-30) after the second media timeout at the 10:22 mark, both teams began to heat up. When Edmead drilled a left-wing three-pointer at the 9:51 mark off a feed from classmate Romone Saunders (Temple Hills, MD/Potomac [Mt. Zion Prep]), it was a 16-16 game. Edmead's long-range bucket answered a Fairfield three-pointer.
  • The Stags then went on a 6-0 burst in forging a  22-16 lead with 7:06 left in the first half before the Green & White found their rhythm. Henson was the catalyst as the second-year guard drilled three straight trifectas, igniting the Seahawk offense and giving Wagner a 27-25 lead. Henson's hot hand keyed a 12-0 run, which was capped by another three-point shot, this one from Edmead, as the Seahawks' turned a 25-18 deficit into a 30-25 lead.
  • Over the final 5:32 of the first half, the Wagner defense stifled Fairfield, as the Seahawks concluded the half on a 14-4 run while limiting the Stags to just 1-of-10 shooting from the field, with the lone field goal coming on a three-pointer from Jerry Johnson.
  • For the half, Henson and Edmead combined for 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from outside.  Wagner shot 57.1 percent from beyond the arc in the opening half (8-of-14) while limiting Fairfield to just 21.4 percent from deep (3-of-14). Carey was impressive in the opening stanza, scoring seven points and grabbing nine rebounds, with six coming on the defensive end.
  • Wagner extended its lead to 41-32 at the outset of the second half as Henson hit his fourth three-pointer of the game from the top of the key.  After a 3:30 scoring drought by both teams, Fairfield mounted a comeback, trimming the Seahawks' lead to just four, 41-37, with 12:40 left in the game as Segura drove the lane and banked in the layup chance. This bucket was part of an 11-4 Stag run, and when Kevin Degnan hit a three-pointer, the Seahawk lead was down to three, 43-40, with 10:55 remaining.
  • For the game, Wagner shot 42.6 percent from the field and a season-high 56.5 percent from three-point range while outmuscling the Stags on the boards by a 41-32 advantage.  Fairfield scored 34 of its 64 points in the paint while Wagner's bench outscored Fairfield, 33-26.

SCOUTING THE GEORGE MASON PATRIOTS:
  • Two Patriots are averaging double-figures in scoring, led by Jaire Grayer, who checks in at 11.0 ppg while shooting 43.0 percent from the field and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line. Otis Livingston, who is one of two Patriots to start in every game this season, follows at 10.9 ppg while averaging a team-best 33.4 minutes per game.
  • Shevon Thompson is the team's leading rebounder, averaging 10.6 caroms a contest, which leads the Atlantic 10 as of 12/18/15.
  • The Patriots are without the services of Marko Gujanicic (9.5 ppg.), who was suspended on December 10 for violation of team and university academic policies, and Patrick Holloway (5.3 ppg.), who has has voluntarily left the program,
  • After dropping its first two games of the season, against Colgate and at Mercer, the Patriots defeated Ole Miss (68-62) and Oklahoma State, 71-68, in overtime to advance to the championship game of the Gildan Charleston Classic. The Patriots earned back-to-back wins for the second time this season after defeating the Longwood Lancers, 75-70, at EagleBank Arena on Saturday evening.
  • Three Patriots finished in double figures, led by DeAndre Abram's game-high 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. Marquise Moore chipped in with 15 points and fell one rebound short of a double-double, pulling down a team-best nine rebounds.  Livingston, the team's leading scorer, added 12 points and five assists in the victory.

GEORGE MASON HEAD COACH DAVE PAULSEN:
  • Paulsen was named Mason's 10th head coach back on March 30, 2015, after guiding Patriot League member, Bucknell, to a 134-94 record during a seven-year tenure.
  • At Bucknell, Paulsen was a three-time Patriot League Coach of the Year, including his final season in 2015, after the Bison finished with a 19-15 mark.
