Staten Island, NY - The Wagner men's basketball team will open the month of December with its third straight home contest, as the Seahawks welcome the Morgan State University Bears to Staten Island tonight at 7:30 p.m. in a contest that will follow the Wagner women's basketball matchup vs.NJIT, which tips off at 5:00 p.m.  

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Wagner will look to go 3-0 at home this year, after picking up an 83-59 victory over intra-borough rival, College of Staten Island on Saturday afternoon.
  • Morgan State is in the midst of a three-game road trip that started on Saturday in High Point, North Carolina as the Bears dropped an 82-72 decision to High Point University.
  • Al-time, Wagner is 13-7 against schools from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). 

LAST TIME OUT FOR WAGNER:
  • In the first All-Staten Island matchup in 16 years, the Wagner College Seahawks ran past their intra-borough rivals, the College of Staten Island Dolphins, 83-59, on Saturday afternoon at the Spiro Sports Center.
  • Fourth-year head coach Bashir Mason picked up career win No. 50 in the process, becoming the eighth head coach in Wagner men's basketball history to have at least 50 career victories. 
  • Wagner (2-2) had a season-best four players score in double figures, led by redshirt-senior forward Mike Aaman (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan [Rhode Island]), who tossed in a season-high 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor, and of 8-of-10 accuracy from the free-throw line. 
  • Redshirt-senior guard Dwaun Anderson (Suttons Bay, MI/Suttons Bay[Michigan State]) posted his fourth straight double-digit scoring performance of the season, setting a career high with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting while connecting on 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
  • Junior guard Michael Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Lamar Consolidated [San Jacinto College]) netted a career-high 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting, to go with a team-high eight caroms, which ties his career high set at Seton Hall (11/15).  
  • Sophomore guard Romone Saunders (Temple Hills, MD/Potomac [Mt. Zion Prep]) added a season-best 11 points while also corralling eight rebounds in the victory.

SCOUTING MORGAN STATE BEARS:
  • The Bears enter Wednesday's contest looking to get back in the win column, after suffering an 82-72 setback at High Point on Saturday.
  • Kyle Thomas is the Bears' leading scorer at 13.5 points game, in which the junior forward poured in a career-best 19 points against the Panthers.
  • Junior guard Andrew Horne, Jr. is the squad's second-leading scorer at 12.8 ppg, while shooting 94.7 percent from the free-throw line in his first six games of the season. 


LAST TIME OUT FOR MORGAN ST: 
  • John Brown scored 30 points, Lorenzo Cugini added 16 and High Point pulled away from Morgan State in the second half to win 82-72 Saturday night at Millis Center. 
  • It marked the Bears first loss in the series to the Panthers (2-1 since 2013). In a game that featured 11 lead changes and four ties in the first half, it was the early going of the second half that hurt the Bears. 
  • MSU's (2-4) Andre Horne Jr. (10 points) buried a 3-pointer that tied the game at 47 apiece with 16:51 to go, but a layup by John Brown sparked a 18-4 run by the Panthers. 
  • Lorenzo Cugini scored on a layup to extend the Panthers to its largest lead of the night at 67-51 with 9:13. 
  • Kyle Thomas led the Bears with 19 points and grabbed five boards. Clive Vaughan Jr. scored 13 points (5-10 FG) off the bench. Phillip Carr added 11 points with eight rebounds.


SERIES HISTORY:
  • Wednesday's contest is the first meeting between Wagner and Morgan State. 
  • Morgan State is the lone Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) school the Seahawks will face during the 2015-16 regular season.
  • Wagner is the lone Northeast Conference (NEC) team the Bears will see this regular season as well. 


WAGNER ALL-TIME VS. MID-EASTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE (MEAC):
  • All-time, Wagner holds a 13-7 (.650) mark against teams in the MEAC. 
  • The Seahawks have yet to face seven schools from the conference, which include Bethune Cookman, Florida A&M, Maryland Eastern-Shore, Morgan State, North Carolina A&T, Savannah State and South Carolina State. 


MASON GETS 50 AT 31: 
  • When Wagner defeated its intra-borough rival, College of Staten Island on Saturday, fourth-year head coach Bashir Mason picked up career victory No. 50 at the age of 31. 
  • In the process, Mason became the fourth Wagner head coach to amass at least 50 career victories, and first since Mike Deane did so during the 2006-07 season.

Under head coach Bashir Mason, the Seahawks are:
  • 41-8 when outrebounding their opponents
  • 34-4 while leading at halftime
  • 19-5 when scoring 80 or more points
  • 11-5 in home non-conference games

CLEANING UP THE (OFFENSIVE) GLASS:
  • Through games played 11/30/15, the Seahawks rank fifth in the NCAA in Offensive Rebounds Per Game, pulling down 18.3 caroms a contest. 

SEAHAWK DEFENSE THRIVING:
  • The Seahawk defense has been on point through the first four games of the season, ranking 16th in the nation in steals per game with 9.5. 
  • In scoring defense, the Green & White rank among the top-100 in scoring defense (66.8 ppg)
  • In the Northeast Conference, the Seahawks are second  in field-goal percentage defense at 42.6 percent. 

308 GAMES OF THREES: 
  • The Wagner men's basketball team have made at least one three-pointer in 308 straight games.
  • The Seahawks last didn't convert a three-pointer back on February 28, 2004 at home against NEC-foe, Mount St. Mary's, in which the Green & White were held to 0-of-13 shooting from beyond the arc.
