Women's Basketball Takes On Old Dominion This Afternoon

Norfolk, VA- The Wagner women's basketball team travels to Norfolk, VA to tangle with Conference-USA member, Old Dominion, this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from the Ted Constant Convocation Center.   Both teams enter the contest looking for win No. 1 on the young season. 

Last Time Out For Wagner:
  • The Wagner women's basketball team fell at ACC member Pittsburgh, 67-41, at the Petersen Events Center on Friday morning in the 2015-16 season opener for both teams.
  • Wagner was led in scoring by 6-2 sophomore forward Sofia Roma (Richmond Hill, NY/Nazareth Regional), who tallied eight points, on 3-of-8 shooting from the floor while grabbing five rebounds.  
  • Newcomer Alexis Smith (Medford, NY/St. John the Baptist), a 5-9 fifth-year senior guard who transferred in from the University of Illinois, tossed in seven points while pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out three assists in her Seahawk debut.  
  • Junior guard Jasmine Nwajei (Rockaway Park, NY/ Murray Bergtraum) made her presence felt on the boards, ripping down a team-high nine rebounds and dished out three assists to tie Smith for team-high honors.

Scouting Old Dominion:
  • This afternoon's contest with the Seahawks is the home opener for the Lady Monarchs, who fell to Richmond on Friday, 62-57, despite staging a late comeback after trailing by 10 points entering the fourth quarter.
  • Keyana Brown led the team with 15 points while teammate Jennie Simms finished the game with 12 points and six rebounds.  Ije Ajemba added 10 points and pulled down a team-leading eight caroms in defeat.
