Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA / Loyola College Prep) finished second in 'B' Flight singles while combining with
Sam Flaxman (So., Avon, CT / Avon) to place second in the 'B' Flight doubles competition, leading the way for Wagner at the two-day 2014 Hofstra Invitational at the Hofstra Outdoor Tennis Courts.
Boyd started his run to the championship on Friday with an easy 8-2 win over Stony Brook's Hari Rohan in the round of 16 before besting Sacred Heart's Karan Narula by an 8-1 count. In the semifinals, Boyd grinded out a hard-fought 6-2, 1-6, 10-4 victory over Kenzo Kauffmann to reached the finals. After claiming the three-set thriller, Boyd was defeated in the championship match by Hofstra's Ricky Hendler by scores of 7-5 and 6-3.
During doubles play, Boyd and Flaxman easily won their first match by an 8-5 count over Hofstra's Stuart MacLeod and Leonardo Pires before advancing to the finals with an 8-7 (5) win over the Stony Brook tandem of Brandon Stone and Kauffmann.
In the 'A' Flight singles event, both
Ryan Khan (Fr., Weston, FL / University School) and
Michal Rolski (Fr., Kielczow, Poland / Oak Meadow (VT)) advanced to the semifinals before meeting up in the third-place match with Khan emerging victorious.
All told, five different Seahawks won singles matches while Khan and
Allen Wang (Clovis, CA / Buchanan) won their first match in 'A' Flight doubles.
The Green & White will next host St. Francis Brooklyn (10:00 am) and La Salle (4:00 pm) on Friday, September 26 at the Wagner Tennis Courts.
