Walt Hameline is pleased with his squad as the team points to two-a-day practice sessions beginning on Saturday.
Following today's practice, wagnerathletics.com visited with Hameline, who is entering his 34
th season on Grymes Hill.
"So far, so good - I think we've had a really solid week of practice and now things will get ramped up when we have our first two-a-days on Saturday and Sunday. Both quarterbacks (junior Chris Andrews (Queens, NY/Valley Forge Prep and senior Brian Gehring (Tigard, OR/Laney JC) have done some good things and shown good command of the offense. Right now, I'd say (senior) Riley Magner (Boise, ID/San Francisco CC) is probably our third quarterback but it's early.""Overall, I'm very pleased with the work ethic and with the effort that we're getting each day. This is a much more veteran team than last year and that's evident in how we are practicing. We've got a lot of guys who have played a lot of football. I think we have good team leadership. I like our depth at running back and our defensive secondary has looked strong."'It's way too early in camp to make any real assessments but I am happy with what I've seen."Seahawk fans will be able to get their first glimpse of the 2014 squad in game-like conditions on Saturday, August 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the annual Green & White Game, which is free of charge, which will be followed by a barbecue that will cost just $10.00.

Following a 2012 season that saw Wagner claim their first-ever Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship, a young and largely untested squad went 3-8 a year ago, and this year's team will be looking to bounce back in a big way as Wagner returns 60 letterwinners and 14 started from last year's squad.
Â
The August 30 opener at Georgetown marks the first of four straight road contests to open the 2014 season. Â In week two, Wagner, will travel to Florida International on September 6, marking the third consecutive season the Seahawks will face a Football Bowl Championship Subdivision team. Wagner opened the 2012 season at Florida Atlantic and played at Syracuse last season.
Â
In week three, the Green & White will make the short trek to West Long Branch, NJ to meet former Northeast Conference (NEC) foe Monmouth on September 13 before capping its four-game, season-opening road stretch in the first night game of the season at Lafayette in a 6:00 pm start on September 27.
Â
Wagner opens its 2014 home calendar on October 4 by hosting Division II member Alderson Broaddus College in a 6:00 pm kickoff under the lights at Hameline Field. On October 11, the Seahawks begin NEC play with a home date vs. Saint Francis U as Wagner alternates home and away games throughout the NEC campaign.
Â
Following a bye week, the Seahawks travel to Central Connecticut on October 25 before hosting Sacred Heart on November 1. Wagner is at Robert Morris on November 8, returns home to face Duquesne on November 15, before rounding out the 2014 regular season at Bryant on November 22.
