Women's Soccer Blanks Saint Peter's 2-0

Staten Island, NY- Junior forward Samantha Jensen (Ocean Gate, NY / Central Regional) scored two goals and senior goalkeeper Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY / John F. Kennedy) recorded her second straight shutout as the Wagner women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Saint Peter's this evening at Hameline Field.

With the victory, the Seahawks, who knocked off Iona 1-0 on August 24, improve to 2-1 on the young season while the Peacocks fall to 0-2.

The Green & White came out on the attack tonight, posting 36 shots, 21 in the first half and another 15 following intermission.

 Wagner broke a scoreless tie in the 64th minute when Jensen sank a blast from the 17- yard line to put make it a 1-0 game.  It did not take long for Jensen to notch her second goal of the game as she converted in the in the 76th minute off of an assist from sophomore midfielder Sydney McNutt (Harboro, PA / Hatboro-Horsham) which proved to be the dagger in the game.

"We played extremely well tonight and it showed with the 36 shots that we had in the game," said Minielli. "I was pleased that we were able to get the ball to Jensen in the second half since we were not able to do that much in the first.  We were able to get two goals in against a great goalkeeper tonight, but we need to be sharper around the box so that we can have better finishes."

During the match, 17 Seahawks saw action.

The Seahawks outshot the Peacocks by a 36-6 count while Marcy came up wiht five saves in goal.

The Green & White will return to action this Sunday at home against the Stony Brook Seawolves at 1:00 p.m.
