Staten Island, NY
- The Wagner women's soccer team evened its record at 1-1 following an impressive 1-0 victory over Iona in the Green & White's home opener this afternoon at Hameline Field. In defeat, the Gaels see their record also evened to 1-1.

The Seahawks were on attack for most of the first half and were finally able to put a ball in the back of the net when sophomore Megan Fritz (Cape Coral, FL / Mariner) scored a goal off of a well placed free kick pass from classmate Jessica Mouradian (Baldwin, NY / Baldwin).

Wagner had control for most of the game until Iona started pushing the ball up the field with 10 minutes left in the contest, but the Green & White defense was able to keep the Gaels at bay and off the scoreboard en route to picking up the its first win of the season.

"We played much better than we did on Friday, and it was against a good Iona team that started off their season with a win against LIU Brooklyn," said head coach Mike Minielli. "It was very important for our girls to win this game because we have to avoid losing streaks to have a good year. We were only able to get one goal on 18 shots which shows that we played hard today, but we need to get in a better offensive flow throughout the season to continue winning games."

During the match,18 Seahawks saw action. Starting goalkeeper Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY/John F. Kennedy) made five saves in collecting her first shutout of the season.

The Seahawks outshot the Gaels by a 18-9 count.

The Green & White will return to action this Friday at home against the Saint Peter's Peacocks at 7:00 pm.
