ALL-NEC RELEASE (PDF)

Somerset, NJ – Wagner College redshirt-freshman midfielder Patrick McMenamin (Longport,  NJ/St. Augustine Prep) was named to the Northeast Conference (NEC) Men's Lacrosse All-Rookie Team, in a vote by the conference's head coaches, it was announced by the league office.

The gritty, 5-6, 160-pound McMenamin led the 2014 Seahawks in both points (29) and assists (13) during the recently-completed 2014 season, while fourth on the team in both groundballs (29) and caused turnovers (9). McMenamin tallied a career-high four goals at Richmond (3/21) and had a three-goal effort vs. Robert Morris (4/5).

McMenamin registered at least one point goal in all 13 contests this season, finishing with two or more points four times, while scoring at least one goal nine times. In a dramatic 7-6, four-overtime victory over Monmouth on February 26, McMenamin collected a career-high five groundballs while being credited with a career-high three caused turnovers, a figure he matched vs. Mercer (3/30).

"I'm very proud of Patrick that he has received this well-deserved recognition," said Wagner third-year head coach Matt Poskay. "Patrick did a lot of good things for us and was consistent throughout the season and I think this year will be a great springboard for him to go on to a terrific career here at Wagner."

Patrick McMenamin is one of three brothers who are members of the Seahawk program. His twin brother William McMenamin, was in the midst of an excellent season from his midfield spot as well before suffering a season-ending leg injury in game seven at Richmond (3/21). In the six-plus game in which he played, William was Wagner's primary faceoff man, winning 56-109 (.514) of his battles in the X and his 43 groundballs remained a team high throughout the season. Offensively, William added eight points on the season with seven goals and one assist.

Michael McMenamin, a junior midfielder, also played a significant role on the 2014 Seahawks, contributing 23 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers while scoring one goal.

Wagner finished the season with a 2-11 overall mark, 0-6 in the NEC. While the won-loss record may not reflect it, the Green & White continued to show improvement in many areas this season, displaying a more competitive and consistent brand of lacrosse. Among the Seahawk defeats were a pair of tough one-goal decisions, to Detroit by a 9-8 count on March 8, which came on a last-second goal. The next time out, on March 15, Wagner dropped another hard-fought game, losing Vermont 11-10 in double-overtime.
