Loundonville, NY - Wagner Water Polo has now swept two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponents, as the Seahawks topped St. Francis Brooklyn 17-0, and Iona 9-7 in today's games. Winners of four consecutive games, Wagner improved to 19-11 on the year, and 7-1 in MAAC play.
In the teams first shutout since an 18-0 win over VMI on March 31st, 2012, the Wagner Water Polo team cruised past St. Francis Brooklyn 17-0 to begin today's pair of games.
Junior
Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA / St. Mary's) led the scoring for Wagner, netting five goals in the first half of the double-header. Sophomore Lily Doferfler (Annapolis, MD / Broadneck) and junior
Rachel Burns (Auckland, New Zealand / Diocesan) both added three goals for the Seahawks.
In the second game, the Seahawks held off reigning MAAC Champions Iona, with a balanced scoring attack that featured six players score the nine goals.
Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia / Mountain Creek),
Gabryel Oloapu (Auckland, New Zealand / Diocesan), and
Stacy McGregor (Sinking Spring, PA / Wilson) all netted two goals for Wagner, leading to the win.
Today's win combined with the 13-12 win over Iona on March 22nd marks the first time since 2005 that Wagner has swept the regular season series with the Gaels.
Wagner is back in action on Saturday, April 12th when the Seahawks will host two games against MAAC opponents Marist and Siena. During the games, Wagner will take time to recognize seniors
