Wagner Takes Two In Loundonville

- The Wagner Water Polo team improved to 17-11 (5-1 MAAC) after beating Villanova, 11-5, and topping VMI, 19-10 in two games at Siena.

Lily Doerfler (Annapolis, MD / Broadneck) scored four goals and Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia / Mountain Creek) added three more, helping Wagner to the 11-5 win over Villanova.

Doerfler scored the first goal of the game, 90 seconds in to the contest, then found the net again at the 6:17 mark to give Wagner a 2-0 lead early on. The Seahawks led 3-0 at the end of the first quarter after Stacy McGregor (Sinking Spring, PA / Wilson) found the back of the net later on in the first.

Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA / St. Mary's) got in on the scoring in the second quarter, netting a goal midway through the frame giving Wagner a 4-0 lead. The Green and White went into halftime leading 4-1 when the Wildcats were able to sneak one by goalie Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta / Dr. E.P. Scarlett), who finished the game with five saves.

Wagner added three goals in the third quarter, when Lundgren added two more, and Doerfler scored once.

The Seahawks took a 7-4 lead into the final frame, but outscored Villanova 4-1 in the fourth to put the game away. Four different Seahawks scored in the fourth quarter, with goals from Lundgren, Doerfler, Burdge, and Rachel Burns (Auckland, New Zealand / Diocesan).

The Seahawks scored six goals in the first quarter and added six more in the second frame, leading to the 19-10 win over VMI in the second contest of the day. Burns netted five of the scores while Lundgren totaled four goals for Wagner, while Riddle stopped eight shots from the Keydets.

Eight different players scored on the game for Wagner, as Doerfler, Burdge, Megan Rodriguez (Danville, CA / San Ramon Valley), and Michelle Greenough (Davis, CA / Davis) scored twice each for the Green and White, while Gabryel Oloapu (Auckland, New Zealand / Diocesan) and Maura McGinley (King of Prussia, PA / Upper Merion) both scored once.

Wagner returns to action at noon on April 6th, beginning a doubleheader against St. Francis Brooklyn and Iona.
