Brooklyn Heights, NY
- You can put it in the record books, the Wagner Seahawks have won the 2014 regular season Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship after the second consecutive four-win weekend. Wagner topped VMI 19-8 and Villanova 14-5 today, putting the Seahawks at 11-1 in the MAAC, edging out 10-2 Marist for the regular season crown.

The Seahawks paved the way to a regular season title by first topping VMI, thanks in part to six goals by Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia / Mountain Creek). Three other players had hat-tricks in Lily Doerfler (Annapolis, MD / Broadneck), Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA / St. Mary's), and Rachel Burns (Auckland, New Zealand / Diocesan), while freshman goalie Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta / Dr. E.P. Scarlett) was able to stop 11 shots by the Keydets.

In the 14-5 win over Villanova, Burdge paced Wagner with four goals, while Stacy McGregor (Sinking Spring, PA / Wilson) and Doerfler found the net three times each. This was the team's third win over the Wildcats on the season, having played Villanova twice in conference play, and once more at the Bison Invitational earlier in the season.

The Wildcats and the Seahawks will meet again in 13 days for the opening round of the MAAC Tournament, as Wagner has earned the number one seed, while Villanova will be the four seed. The tournament will take place in Poughkeepsie, NY, on the campus of Marist, who will be the two seed. Iona, who has won the past three MAAC Championships, will be the three seed in the tournament, and take on the Red Foxes in the semi-final round.

The eight-game winning streak is a feat accomplished only three prior times in school history, and last done in 2006. In 2005, the Seahawks won a program record 12 consecutive games over the season.

The 2014 squad is very familiar with the record books, as the senior class has now tied the class of 2007 with the most wins over a four year span with 84. Also broken this year was the single season record for sprints won by Burdge, the single season assists record by Megan Rodriguez (Danville, CA / San Ramon Valley), and the single season steals record by Lundgren.
