Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's lacrosse team, under the direction of first-year head coach
Liz Frisoli, looks for its second straight win and to improve its season record to 3-2 when the Seahawks travel to the Jersey Shore to meet former Northeast Conference rival Monmouth (0-3) on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
The Seahawks are seeking to continue the momentum gained by
Wednesday's 14-7 victory over Manhattan, a victory keyed by a career-high five-goal performance delivered by sophomore midfielder
Stephanie Peterson (Vernon Township, NJ/Vernon Township).
Wagner and Monmouth have faced two common opponents this season and the Seahawks are 1-1 in these games while the Hawks are 0-2. The Green & White own a 9-5 win over Fresno State and dropped a 16-5 decision to Lafayette while Monmouth lost to Fresno State and Lafayette by scores of 8-6 and 12-6, respectively.
In the NCAA's most recent statistics, the Seaheawks are
ranked fifth nationally in caused turnovers at 13.33 per game. Individually, senior
Katy Bender (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and sophomore
Shea Gegan (Mansaquan, NJ/Manasquan) are
tied for 24th in the nation in caused turnovers with an average of 2.33 per outing.
The Hawks captured the 2012 and 2013 NEC Championships and are now competing in their first season competing as a member of the MAAC.
