Princeton, NJ - In the final game of the Princeton Invitational, the Seahawks won their second straight game over Harvard, 11-8. Wagner now sits at 3-4 on the season, and is looking ahead to next weekend's action at the Bison Invitational in Lewisburg, PA.
The game against Harvard was a back-and-forth affair, with Wagner holding a 5-4 lead after the end of the first quarter. Sophomore
Lily Doerfler (Annapolis, MD / Broadneck) and junior
Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA / St. Mary's) were both able to score twice in the first, with sophomore
Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia / Mountain Creek) scoring once and adding two assists.
The Crimson scored two straight goals to open up the second, going up 6-5 on Wagner. After five scoreless minutes, the Green and White were able to score twice in the final 1:03, when Lundgren netted a goal, followed by a
Megan Rodriguez (Danville, CA / San Ramon Valley) goal with 32 seconds before half to take back the lead, 7-6.
Wagner outscored Harvard 3-1 in the third quarter, thanks in part to two goals by Burdge, and another by Doerfler. Burdge found Lundgren for a goal in the fourth, and the Wagner defense, led by
Emily Riddle (Edmonton, Alberta / Dr. E.P. Scarlett) with seven blocks, only allowed one goal in the final quarter.
For the game, Burdge led the scoring with four goals, while Doerfler and Lundgren added three each, and Rodriguez added one. Lundgren added five assists in the game, while Rodriguez and
Rachel Burns (Auckland, New Zealand / Diocesan) added two each.
The 3-4 Seahawks will battle George Washington for the second time this season on a Valentine's Day game this upcoming Friday in the Bison Invitational. Wagner will have two Saturday games on Feb. 15 against MAAC foe Villanova and Michigan, before wrapping things up on Sunday against the University of California, San Diego.
