Wagner Drops Two During First Day At Combat Invitational

Rock Hill, SC – On the first day of the Combat Invitational, the Wagner softball (2-3) team dropped its first game to Northern Colorado in a 12-1 decision, before falling to Cleveland State 6-4 in the nightcap.


Wagner vs Northern Colorado

In Wagner's first game of the day, Northern Colorado was first to get on the board, as the Bears plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning to go up 2-0. Following their two-run performance in the first inning, the Bears would add another two runs in the bottom of the second to bring the score to 4-0.

Wagner's only run of the game came in the top of the third inning, when Kristen Matteoni's RBI double brought home Brianna Tredway who had reached base with a single up the middle.

Northern Colorado added more six runs in the bottom of the third, followed by two runs in the fourth inning to bring the score to 12-1 in the Bears' favor. Wagner would be unable to answer before the end of the game.


Wagner vs Cleveland State

In their second game up of the afternoon, the Seahawks dropped a hard-fought 6-4 decision to Cleveland State.

The Vikings scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning, before adding four more in the third to bring the score to 5-0.

Determined to get Wagner on the board, Taylor Beeson hit a laser over the heads of the outfield for a solo home run, making it a 5-1 game..

That's the way the score remained until Brenda Bott socked a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, brining in Kelsey Parker and Abigail Beasley.

The Vikings would add the last run of the game during the top of the seventh and held on for the 6-4 win.

The Green & White return to action is next in action tomorrow, March 1, when they face Furman in a 1:00 pm game, before taking on host Winthrop at 5:00 pm.
