ResultsFlushing Meadow, NY - Freshman
Michal Rolski (Kielczow, Poland / Oak Meadow, VT) continued his strong play by defeating Saint Peter's junior Carlos Carrera, advancing to the second round of the
USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships.
The two competitors witnessed each other's play previously, as Saint Peter's traveled to Grymes Hill on
September 28 with Carrera besting Seahawk freshman
Ryan Khan (Weston, FL/ University School) on this day, 6-2, 6-4, although it was the Seahawks who claimed the 6-1 victory with Rolski notching the win out of the second position.
Rolski and Carrera were gridlocked in an extremely tight first set, which saw Rolski win by a count of 7-6 (2), before winning the second set by a 6-1 count. As the day wore on, Rolski's play seemed to get stronger as he effortlessly flew across the court in the decisive second set victory.
The win sends Rolski into the second round where he will be matched up with the tournament's No. 2 overall seed, Havard senior Dennis Nguyen.
Khan and Rolski paired up for the doubles portion of the competition against the senior pair of Olivier Dufour-Coursol and David Raymond hailing from Niagara. The freshman tandem fell 8-4 to their upstate New York counterparts in a competitive match, eliminating the Seahawk tandem from the doubles portion of the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships.
After being eliminated from the individual competition in Thursday's qualifying round, Khan bounced back with a strong performance, defeating Monmouth sophomore Christian Vieira 6-2, 6-1 in the consolation bracket.
