Brooklyn, NY -
Fueled by four double-figure scorers, Wagner swept the season series from LIU Brooklyn for the second-straight season with a hard-fought 75-68 victory at the WRAC.

With the win, the Seahawks improve to 10-10 and 4-3 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the three-time defending league champion Blackbirds fall to 7-13 and 2-5 in the league.

Senior Latif Rivers (Elizabeth, NJ / Avon Old Farms (CT)) scored 12 of his game-high 18 points in the first half while setting the tone for the Green & White offense, which shot a blistering 50.9 percent (28-of-55) from the floor. Classmate Kenneth Ortiz (Newark, NJ / Southern Mississippi) helped facilitate the offensive effort with a team-best seven assists while also recording a career and NEC single-season high six steals, seven points and five rebounds.

Jason Brickman had a tremendous performance in defeat, handing out a game-high 13 assists with five points and four rebounds over a game-high 37 minutes while E.J. Reed added a game-high matching 18 points.

LIU Brooklyn notched five of the game's first seven points before the Wagner offense ripped off 10-straight markers. Sophomore Dwaun Anderson (Suttons Bay, MI / Michigan State) started the spurt with a beautiful tip-in off a missed shot before Rivers sank the first of his three triples off a pass from Ortiz. On the ensuing possession, junior Mario Moody (Jersey City, NJ / East Orange Campus) stole the ball and found Rivers for another triple. Ortiz capped the Seahawk spurt with a fast break layup off a long rebound in staking the visitors to a 12-5 lead with 14:33 to play.

The lead would grow to a half-high 10 on a pair of occasions as Wagner built a 24-14 advantage with just over eight minutes until halftime.

LIU Brooklyn quickly fought back with a pair of Gerrell Martin buckets and a Glenn Feidanga layup to trim the deficit to three. After Rivers momentarily quelled the momentum with a layup, the Blackbirds scored six-straight points to cap a 13-2 run in taking a 27-26 lead with 4:20 remaining in the first half.

However, the lead would last for just 18 seconds as senior Orlando Parker (Orlando, FL / Orlando Christian Prep) converted a layup off a nifty pass from sophomore Marcus Burton (Charlotte, NC / David W. Butler), while sparking a half-ending 8-2 run as the Seahawks took what would prove to be an insurmountable 34-29 advantage.

After the break, the Green & White continued to apply the pressure and began the second half with an 8-3 spurt in opening up a 42-32 advantage with just under 18 minutes remaining in the game.

LIU Brooklyn would continue to fight and trimmed the deficit to four on three occasions early in the second half, the last of which came on a Brickman float to make it a 48-44 game with 10:37 to play. After a defensive stop, the Blackbirds had a chance to make it a one-possession game but were denied three times before junior Jay Harris (Aurora, IL / Valparaiso) hit a jumper.

Following Harris' jumper the closest LIU Brooklyn would get the rest of the way was five, before the Valparaiso transfer put that rally to bed with a pair of free throws to provide the final 75-68 tally. Over the final nine-plus minutes of the game, Harris either scored or assisted on 16 of Wagner's final 27 points while putting the exclamation point on the Seahawks' impressive win.

Parker scored 14 points while pulling down a game-high eight rebounds to pace the Green & White frontcourt while Moody chipped in with 14 points, on 7-of-10 shooting, with seven rebounds off the bench. The duo helped Wagner to a 37-33 advantage in the glass.

Rounding out the double-figure scorers for Wagner was Harris, who finished with 10 points, five assists and four rebounds in just 22 minutes of action.

LIU Brooklyn shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field, but was able to keep it close by converting on a blistering 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from long range.

The Seahawks will look to sweep their annual road trip to Brooklyn on Saturday, February 1 at St. Francis Brooklyn with tip time slated for 5:00 pm.
