With two more swats vs. the Mountaineers, Nwaigwe is up to 48 on the season and 64 for her career, which places her eighth on the Wagner all-time list, five behind Rachel Carman (1990-1994) who had 69 career blocks.
Redshirt freshman guard
Jazmine Hamlet (Manhattan, NY/ Fort Lewis) was the fourth Seahawk in double figures vs. the Mount, equaling her career high with 10 points. Freshman guard
Lyndsay Rowe (South River, NJ/St. John Vianney) is the only Seahawk who has started all 16 games and is third on the team in scoring at 7.6 points per game.
After reaching the 79-point plateau for the first time since 2003 last time out in their 79-70 win over Sacred Heart on January 13, the Seahawks nearly matched that mark with 78 points vs. the Mountaineers, marking the sixth time this season that Wagner has scored 70 or more points in a game. Last season, in 29 contests, the Seahawks hit for 70 or more on just one occasion.
Robert Morris is 8-8 overall and tied for first place in the NEC with a league mark of 4-1 The Colonials have won three straight games, all of them at the Charles L. Sewall Center, affectionately referred to on the RMU campus as the Chuck, where they are 68-15 since the 2004-05 season.
The Colonials are led by 6-0 senior forward Artemis Spanou, a native of Greece and one of the top players in the history of the NEC. Spanou enters the Wagner game averaging 18.1 points and a league-leading 14.5 rebounds per game. The reigning Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week, Spanou powered Robert Morris past Bryant and Fairleigh Dickinson last week by averaging 20.0 points, 19.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per victory. Her 20th, and final, rebound in a 66-51 win over Fairleigh Dickinson moved Spanou past former WNBA Draft pick Jess Zinobile for the NEC's all-time career rebounding record.
Next up in Spanou's record-breaking career is the NEC record for career double-doubles. Spanou is currently tied with Saint Francis University's Jess Zinoble (1996-00) with 72 career double-doubles. She is seventh on the NCAA career list.
Freshman Anna Niki Stamolamprou, a 5-9 guard, and 5-10 sophomore guard Ashley Ravelli are also double-digit scorers for the Colonials, checking in at 11.7 and 10.3 points, respectively.
In the Colonials' 83-69 home win over Saint Francis U on Saturday, RMU went on an 11-0 run to break open a tight game and secure the victory over their Keystone State rivals. Spanou narrowly missed out on a triple-double, finishing with 25 points, 19 rebounds and nine assists. She finished 8-of-11 from the field and was 9-of-9 from the charity stripe while adding two steals.
Stamolamprou tacked on 15 points while knocking down three jumpers from beyond the arc, chipped in with 12 points. In a game that featured 14 lead changes and six ties, it was an 11-0 run over nearly four minutes late in the second half that put the Colonials in control.
