Emmitsburg, MD - Wagner (8-7; 2-0 NEC) returns to the road in a regionally televised
Fox College Sports (FCS) match-up at 2013 NEC finalist Mount St. Mary's (5-10; 1-1 NEC) on Thursday, January 16 at 7:00 pm with Dave Popkin and former Quinnipiac coach Joe DeSantis providing the call. Fans may also watch the game online through
ESPN3 or via
NEC Front Row. The game can also be accessed through channel 623 on
DirecTV.
Top Storylines
#1 - Wagner will look to open up NEC play with three-straight wins for the second-straight year and the third time in four seasons.
#2 - The Seahawks took both match-ups from the Mount last year and was the last NEC team to win in Knott Arena, claiming a 52-50 victory on January 24, 2013.
#3 - Wagner has won the last five meetings between the teams and will be aiming to snap the Mount's seven-game home NEC winning streak.

Mario Moody, who notched game-highs with a career-high matching 19 points and 10 rebounds while going 8-for-10 from the field. For Moody it was his second double-double of the season and the fifth of his career. Since Moody set foot on campus the Seahawks are 13-4 when the Garden State native notches double-figures in scoring.
* The Green & White has now won six-straight games when recording a double-double and are 8-1 since the start of the 2011-2012 season.

DYK? That three of Moody's four 19-point games and two of his double-doubles have come against the Blackbirds as the high-flying forward is averaging 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds each time out while shooting 65.9 percent (29-of-44) over four career games against the 3x defending NEC Champions.
* Moody has also been instrumental in Wagner's current three-game winning streak, averaging 13.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. On the year, he ranks among the NEC leaders in scoring (8.9 ppg-29th), rebounding (6.5 rpg-4th) and blocks (2.6-1st).
* Junior
Marcus Burton led a 33-point effort by the Seahawk reserves against LIU Brooklyn, scoring 17 markers. He is averaging a team-best 16.3 points per game during the Seahawks' current three-game run.
* The Green & White also improved to 6-1 this season when Burton records double-digits in scoring as the North Carolina native has now paced the squad in scoring three times and is one of just two NEC players that have not started to rank among the league leaders in scoring (10.4 ppg-24th NEC) and is second in the circuit from the line (.879).
* Led by Burton, the Wagner bench last week averaged 41.5 points per game while shooting 57.1 percent (32-for-56), including 52.9 percent (9-for-17) from deep.
* Classmate
Jay Harris handed out five assists while notching eight points against the Blackbirds and is shooting 50.0 percent (6-of-12) from deep over the last three games. Thanks to his long-range prowess, he is second in the NEC with a 42.9 percent conversion rate from long range, 25th in scoring (10.3 ppg) and 12th in assists (3.1 apg).
* The junior class of Burton, Harris, Moody and
Hugo Naurais have accounted for 51.5 percent (119-of-231) of the Seahawks scoring during the three-game skeen while converting on 52.5 percent (42-of-80) from the field, including 47.2 percent (17-of-36) from long range.
* Senior
Naofall Folahan broke
Frantz Pierre-Louis' 14-year school-record for blocks at Central Connecticut, before blocking two more against LIU Brooklyn. Folahan now has 180 blocks and ranks 35th nationally with a league-best 2.6 blocks per game and is 11th in the NEC with 5.1 rebounds each time out. In his career, Folahan has now blocked four or more shots on 12 occasions with Wagner going 10-2 in those games.
* Rivers recently became just the fourth Seahawk to notch 1,300 points this century (
Dedrick Dye,
Mark Porter,
Jermaine Hall). He currently has 1,309 points, just 38 behind Dye for 15th place.
* Rivers, who has paced the Seahawks in scoring 30 times in his career with the Green & White going 20-10 during that time, ranks among the league leaders in scoring (13.9 ppg, 12th), field goal percentage (.476, 9th), 3-point percentage (.404, 9th) and free throw percentage (.759, 9th).
* Despite failing to notch double-figures in scoring for the second-straight game, senior
Kenneth Ortiz continues to rank among the league leaders in scoring (12.9-t-13th), assists (3.9-8th), steals (1.5-5th) and free throw percentage (.745-12th). He is the only to earn NEC Player of the Week accolades this year, after averaging 13.5 points, 6.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in wins over Vermont and Coppin State.
* Ortiz and Rivers, Wagner's leading scorers, both failed to notch double-figures in a game for the first time this season against the Blackbirds.
* Thanks to Rivers, Ortiz, Harris and Burton, the Seahawk guards have accounted for 68.6 percent of the offense (735/1071) of the team's scoring.
* Folahan, Ortiz,
Orlando Parker and Rivers comprise the Wagner senior class, which has registered 65 wins since descending on Grymes Hill and has accounted for 47.0 percent (503-of-1071) of the team's offense this year. Parker ranks ninth in the NEC in rebounding (5.3-9th) and blocks (0.9).
* Wagner is a perfect 6-0 when leading with five minutes to play this season and is 47-1 over the last three years, including posting 41-straight victories.
* Since head coach
Bashir Mason took over at the start of last season, his teams have limited the opposition to less than 40 percent shooting in 26 of the Seahawks' 46 games. Additionally, the Green & White is a perfect 10-0 when limiting teams to less than 35 percent during that time.
* Mason, who was a finalist for the
CollegeInsider.com Joe B. Hall First-Year and Ben Jobe Minority Coach of the Year awards last season, is 27-19 in this his second year on Grymes Hill. He reached the 20-win plateau for his career in his 33rd game against Chestnut Hill on Tuesday, November 12, matching
Chester Sellitto's 47-year school record.
* Mount St. Mary's head coach Jamion Christian, who was also a finalist for both awards, is just 1-8 against Wagner as a player and a coach, including having lost six-of-seven as a student-athlete for Mount from 2000-2004.
* For the second season in a row, Mason, who is 29 years and 339 days old, is the youngest Division I head coach as well as the lone head man under the age of 30. In 2012-2013, Mason led the Seahawks to a 19-12 record (12-6 NEC) in 2012-2013. Both his overall and NEC win totals represented school-records for a rookie coach.
* Since the start of the 2011-2012 season, Wagner, which was picked to win the 2014 NEC Championship by the league's coaches, is 52-25, including 29-9 during conference play and 21-14 in non-conference action.
* Over the last three years, the Seahawks are 26-12 in games decided by less than 10 points or in OT, 39-2 when limiting opponents to less than 70 points, 35-5 when scoring at least 70, 39-2 when leading at the half, 16-6 following a loss and 31-3 when shooting 45 percent or higher.
* Wagner is off to a solid start on defense, leading the NEC in rebounding (37.5), blocks (5.7) (34th NCAA), field goal percentage defense (.397) (41st NCAA) and three point field goal percentage defense (.309) (65th NCAA).

HIGH-POWERED OFFENSES
In the opening weekend of NEC play Wagner averaged a league-leading 86.0 points per game while Mount St. Mary's was second at 83.5 points each time out.
ON THE YEAR
The Mountaineers are the NEC's top offense, averaging 76.4 points per game and is led by the senior trio of Julian Norfleet (20.2 ppg, 5.7 apg), Rashad Whack (15.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg) and Sam Prescott (9.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg).
MOUNT LOCKDOWN
The Wagner defense has limited the talented Norfleet to just 10.9 points per game, on 36.8 percent shooting (21-for-57), including 33.3 percent (11-for-33) from deep, in six previous match-ups.
DYNAMIC DUO
Norfleet and Whack are the second-highest ranked scoring duo in the NEC, checking with an even 36.0 points per game, or 48.4 percent of the Mount's scoring output.
INTERESTING
Mason served as an assistant coach at Maris College when Prescott was a freshman. Prescott left Poughkeepsie after his sophomore year to transfer to Mount St. Mary's.

KEY MATCH-UPS
Wagner is averaging a NEC-best 37.5 rebounds per game while Mount St. Mary's is notching a league-low 29.8 caroms each time out. The Mountaineers are also converting on 36.5 percent from long range and a league-high 9.2 triples per game while the Seahawks have the NEC's top three-point defense (.309).
MAKES SENSE
Thanks to the shooting prowess of Burton, Harris and Moody, Wagner converted on 46.3 percent (31-of-67) from the field against LIU Brooklyn and are 8-0 this season and 44-5 over the last three years - including 25-2 since the start of last season - when outshooting the opposition The Seahawks are also 6-1 this season when winning the rebounding battle and 36-7 since 2011-2012.
LONG RANGE BLISS
In Wagner's 88-59 win over Central Connecticut, the Seahawks went 12-for-20 (.600) from long range, including making good on 10-of-12 (.833) in the first half. Harris set the tone, drilling a pair of triples to open the game and finished with 14 points with a career-high matching six assists.
BENCH EXPLOSION
Led by Burton, the reserves erupted for 50 points against the Blue Devils on 67.9 percent (19-of-28) shooting, including 70.0 percent (7-of-10) from long distance. It also marked the first time that the bench scored at least 50 against a Division I team since it notched 56 in a 122-91 victory over Brown on November 17. 2000.
60-POINT CLUB
The Seahawks have now won 24-straight games (22-0 since 2010-2011) when limiting teams to 60 points or less thanks to impressive defensive performances against Monmouth and CCSU.
FOLAHAN SETS SINGLE-GAME BLOCK RECORD
In the win over Monmouth, Folahan broke
Miladin Mutavdzic's 21-year school record of eight rejections, with a school-record 10 blocks. Led by the Republic of Benin's effort, Wagner blocked 15 shots against the Hawks.
AMONG THE BEST
The 10 Folahan rejections and the 15 Seahawks blocks are tied for the most in the Division I ranks this season with four others in each category.
NOT BAD
Folahan's 10 rejections are the most by a NEC player since Monmouth's John Bunch had 10 vs. St. Francis Brooklyn on February 3, 2007 while the Green & White's 15 are the most since FDU notched 17 against Hartford (11/22/97).
A TALE OF TWO HALVES
Wagner is averaging just 31.8 points per game in the first half while shooting 37.6 percent from the floor, including 32.5 percent from deep, and 66.7 percent from the line. After halftime, the Seahawks are scoring 38.7 points each time out while shooting 45.9 percent from the field, including 36.0 percent from deep, and 73.2 percent from the line.
HIGH-POWERED BACKCOURT
Thanks to the stellar play of Burton, Harris, Rivers and Ortiz, the Seahawk backcourt has accounted for 69.9 percent (749-of-1071) of the team's offense while posting 41 of the Seahawks' 50 double-digit performances.
INSTANT OFFENSE
Burton paced Wagner in scoring against Coppin State (21), CCSU (18) and UIC (17) despite coming off the bench, continues to the lead the Seahawks' reserves. The Green & White second unit has outscored their counterparts in 12 of 15 games thanks to the North Carolina native.
MASON ANNOUNCES CLASS OF 2018
Mason recently announced the signings of
Joseph Cooper (Wilmington, DE / Concord),
Aaren Edmead (Deer Park, NY / Deer Park) and
Corey Henson (Upper Marlboro, MD / DeMatha Catholic) to National Letters of Intent. Cooper will be playing his senior season at Concord High School averaging 13.0 points, 4.0 steals, 3.9 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game as a junior at the Tatnall School. As a junior, Edmead averaged 14 points per game while helping lead Deer Park to a 17-4 record, a league championship and the Suffolk Class AA title game. Henson averaged 10.7 points while draining 48 three-pointers for DeMatha Catholic as a junior and is the top returning scorer for the Stags.
WAGNER PICKED TO REIGN SUPREME
For the first time in 21 years Wagner was picked in the annual NEC Coaches Poll to stand atop the summit at the end of the season as The Seahawks received seven of the 10 first place votes. Robert Morris and Bryant tied for second with the Colonials earning two first place nods. Three-time defending champion LIU Brooklyn garnered the final first place vote and was tabbed fourth. Central Connecticut was fifth, followed by last year's runner-up Mount St. Mary's, St. Francis Brooklyn, Sacred Heart, SFU and FDU.
NEC TELEVISION PACKAGE ANNOUNCED
For the third-straight year Wagner will play at least two televised games at home, including one on national television as part of the NEC package. Before the aforementioned two televised home games, the Seahawks will play before a
Fox College Sports (FCS) audience at Mount St. Mary's on Thursday, January 16 at 7:00 pm. Exactly one month later, the Green & White will host Bryant on Sunday, February 16 at 12:00 pm on the
CBS Sports Network before welcoming
FCS back to the Spiro for Senior Day vs. Robert Morris on March 1 at 6:00 pm.
SENIORS PACE RESURGENCE
The senior class of Folahan, Ortiz, Parker and Rivers is arguably the main reason that Wagner in considered among the elite of the NEC. The Seahawks are an impressive 65-42, including 38-18 during league play, since the foursome arrived on Staten Island.
