Emmitsburg. MD – After completing the non-conference portion of its schedule with a mark of 4-4, the Wagner women's lacrosse team begins the first step in its nine-game Northeast Conference (NEC) journey by traveling to Mount St. Mary's for a 4:00 pm contest on Friday.
Both teams will be looking to put an end to three-game losing streaks when the Seahawks and Mountaineers tangle at Waldron Family Stadium. After finishing in third place in the NEC a year ago, The Mount is off to an uncharacteristic 1-7 start to the 2013 season.
The Seahawks are paced offensively by playmaking midfielder
Jessica Mills (Vernon, NJ/ Vernon Township), who has dished out a team-high 22 assists, operating largely out of her feeder position from behind the goal. Mills also leads the team in goals (15) and points (37). Senior Annie O'Connor (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) offers production and experience in the Seahawk attack and is second on the team in scoring with 21 points on 14 goals and seven assists.
Freshman midfielder
Casey McCarthy (Cypress, TX/ Cy-Fair) one of the top NEC rookies, leads the Seahawks in draw controls (18) and caused turnovers (11) while ranking third in scoring with 16 points on 14 goals and two assists. Fellow freshman
Kimmy Tumolo (Mullica Hill, NJ/ Clearview) is the team-leader in ground balls with 13.
In goal, the Seahawks go with another of their 12 freshmen in
Katie Ferraro (Owing Mills, MD/ McDonogh), who sports a 10.68 goals against average and 52 saves.
Following the Mount St. Mary's game, Wagner returns to the region, yet stays on the road, as the Seahawks will face Monmouth on Sunday, March 24 in West Long Branch, NJ at 1:00 pm.
