Staten Island, NY – Looking to return to its winning ways after enduring its first defeat of the season, the 2-1 Wagner College women's lacrosse team will play host to 1-2 Siena on Saturday, March 2 at 1:00 pm on Hameline Field.
After earning victories over Delaware State and at Manhattan to open the season, the Green & White saw its two-game winning streak come to an end in dropping a 10-5 decision to Saint Joseph's last time out.
The Seahawk lineup has been infused by the addition of 12 freshmen, a group that comprises nearly of a big impact Wagner's 25-person roster and many of the rookies are making a big impact early in their careers. In fact, seven of the top 10 scorers on the team are freshmen. Sophomore
Jessica Mills (Vernon Township, NJ/ Vernon), who earned NEC Player of the Week honors following her six-goal, three-assist explosion in the season opener vs. Delaware State, leads the Seahawks in goals (8), assists (6) and points (14).
Following Mills, the next six point-getters are all freshmen and include
Taylor Pastore (7) (Baldwinsville, NY/ C. W. Baker),
Casey McCarthy (7) (Cypress, TX/ Cy-Fair),
Kimmy Tumolo (6) (Mullica Hill, NJ/ Clearview),
Tori McGrath (5) (Albany, NY/ Bethlehem Central),
Stephanie Peterson (5) (Vernon, NJ/ Vernon Township, NJ) and
Gretchen Fay (4) (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/ Manasquan).
The Seahawks also feature a freshman goalie in
Katie Ferraro (Owings Mill, MD/ McDonogh) who has gained the start in all three games and logged 150 out of the possible 180 minutes. In that time, Ferraro boasts an 8.00 goals against average while coming up with 15 saves.
