Men 7th, Women 10th At NEC Indoor Championships

The Wagner Men's and Women's Track teams scored on many different individual and relay events at the 2013 NEC Indoor Championships, as the Men finished in seventh place with 34 points, while the Women took tenth with 23 points.

Having a big meet in his last Indoor Championships was senior Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY / Longwood) who scored a total of 14 points for the Seahawks. Spector took third place in the 3k on the first day of the meet in 8:34.15, and then came back on Sunday to finish second in the 5k, crossing the line in 14:57.51.

Coming back from injury, sophomore Emily Pereira (Howell, NJ / Freehold Township) scored big for Wagner, taking home second place in the 800 meters. Pereira crossed the line in 2:16.75.

Competing in his first NEC Indoor Championships was freshman Skylar Johnson (Point Plesant, NJ / Point Pleasant Borough) who did not disappoint. Johnson took second place in the pole vault, clearing 15'1” which was just under his career best of 15'3”.

Wagner got a fifth place finish from sophomore Nicole Cooper (Sicklerville, NJ / Washington Township) in the triple jump, as Cooper leaped 36'2” to give Wagner four points.

Also scoring points in the meet for Wagner were the following athletes and teams:

Matthew Kane took fourth place in the high jump at 6'4”.

Kayleigh Macchirole took sixth in the 500 meters at 1:17.92.

Samantha Jensen took sixth in the 60 meter hurdles at 9.09 seconds.

The Women's 4,000 distance medley team of Samantha Lauro, Becca Valente, Cameo Kirk, and Alexis Bivona took sixth place in 12:30.54.

The Men's 4,000 distance medley team of Darius Moulton, Kareem Butler, Michael Baio, and Timothy Mendez took sixth place in 10:29.77.

The Women's 4x400 relay team of Macchirole, Emily Pereira, Kelly Periera, and Morgan Kaisershot took seventh place in 4:03.66.

Alan Kopeloff took seventh in the 60 meter hurdles at 8.50 seconds.

Timothy Mendez took eighth in the mile at 4:27.41.

Wagner will compete next in the Monmouth Blue/White Invitational on Wednesday, February 20th.
