Providence, RI – Wagner failed to find the net in the fourth quarter and dropped their first game of the season, 5-4 to Brown, in the Championship game of the Brown Invitational. The two teams were tied at the end of every quarter, but Brown was able to score during a 4-4 tie in the final frame to seal the win.
The Seahawks got a first quarter goal when freshman
Jess Lundgren (Queensland, Australia / Mountain Creek) drew an exclusion, then
Jessica Burdge (Stockton, CA / St. Mary's) found Lundgren for a goal.
Later in the second,
Megan Rodriguez (Danville, CA / San Ramon Valley) found Burdge for a goal, followed by
Stacy McGregor (Sinking Spring, PA / Wilson) finding
Sidney Hoshko (Coronado, CA / Coronado) for her first goal of the season, as the teams went into halftime tied 3-3.
Burdge added one more goal in the third from a Rodriguez assist, but that would be all the scoring for the Seahawks, as they fell short by one goal.
Senior
Laura Karbach (Abington, PA / Germantown Academy) came up big in the net, allowing only five goals while tallying 11 blocks and three steals.
This was the first loss on the season for Wagner, as the Seahawks fall to 3-1. The Green and White will now head to the Bucknell Invite and have two games on Saturday, February 16
th against Mercyhurst and Princeton, followed by a pair on Sunday, February 17
th against Indiana and Brown.
