Wagner Sinks Siena 173-105, Improves to 8-1

RESULTS

Loudonville, NY – The Wagner women's swimming & diving team cruised past Siena College this afternoon, defeating the Saints 173-105. Wagner is now 8-1 on the season in dual meets.

With the win, the Seahawks now tie their record for most dual meet wins (8), which was set during the 2006-2007 season.

In addition to their eighth win of the season, The Green & White's Mallory Lee set the school record for the one-meter board on her way to earning gold with 234.95 points. Teammate Erica Curry took silver in the event, tallying 216.15 points.

Wagner began the meet with a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard medley relay, behind the teams of Meghan Mendez, Katja Claesson, Amanda Lucia, and Corinne Rondina, and Erin Malone, Kelsey Thomas, Samantha Sides and Meredith Ketchmark, respectively. Following the event, Wagner earned a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000-yard freestyle, with Alexandra Cooney bringing home gold, Kristiana Kalibat earning silver, and Maggie Shaw rounding out the trio with bronze.

Sarah Menendez and Claesson finished first and second in the 200-yard freestyle, with teammate Rondina grabbing the fourth-place finish. Malone took top prize in the 100-yard backstroke, while Mendez added a third-place finish in the event.

Thomas earned first in the 100-yard breaststroke, with Ketchmark and sophomore Kara Lacoste finishing second and third, respectively. Immediately after the event, Wagner added a handful of points to their total behind Lucia's first-place effort in the 200-yard butterfly and Kaitlin Murtha's third-place finish in the same event.

Co-captain Ketchmark won the 50-yard freestyle, while Cooney, Sides, and Rondina went 2-3-4 in the 100-yard freestyle. The Green & White then churned out a 1-2-3 finish in the 200-yard backstroke event, with Malone earning gold, Kalibat earning silver, and junior Morgan Stoner earning bronze.

Claesson and co-captain Kristen Lee earned first and second in the 200-yard breaststroke, and Lucia added yet another first-place finish to her tally with a win in the 500-yard freestyle event. Lacoste also earned points for the Seahawks with a fourth-place finish. In the 100-yard butterfly, Sides earned the top prize, with Menendez taking second and Thomas earning fourth.

The Green & White return to the pool on November 22, when they take part in the Frank Elm Invitational in Piscataway, NJ.
