New Rochelle, NY – The Wagner women's swimming & diving team dominated the pool this afternoon, raking in three wins over Iona College, St. Francis Brooklyn, and Sacred Heart University to improve their overall dual meet record to 6-1
.
In addition to the trio of dual meet victories, Wagner swimming sophomore
Corinne Rondina tallied the first win of her collegiate career, earning gold in the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 24.89. Earning their first wins of the season were
Erin Malone, who won the 200-yard fly,
Kaitlin Murtha who took first in the 200-yard back, and senior
Kristiana Kalibat, who finished on top in the 1000-yard freestyle.
The Seahawks began the day with a bang, as
Erica Curry took first on both the one-meter and three-meter boards, with
Mallory Lee earning silver on both boards, and
Cara Walker earning fifth-place on both boards.
From there, The Green & White continued to make waves, earning first-place in the 400-yard medley relay behind the team of
Anu Nihipali,
Katja Claesson,
Amanda Lucia, and
Meredith Ketchmark. Wagner's relay team of Malone,
Kristen Lee,
Samantha Sides, and Rondina took third.
Senior
Sarah Menendez took gold in 200-yard freestyle, while
Alexandra Cooney took second and freshman
Grace Baird earned fourth. Sophomore
Maggie Shaw came in second in the 1000-yard freestyle.
Co-captain Ketchmark came in second-place in the 50-yard freestyle, as Sides took fourth.
Kara Lacoste earned gold in the 200-yard individual medley, and Murtha earned a fifth-place finish.
Nihipali came in first place in the 100-yard freestyle, with Sides and
Kelsey Thomas earning third and fourth, respectively. Kalibat earned silver in the 200-yard backstroke, and
Meghan Mendez earned fourth. Lucia took gold in the 500-yard freestyle, while
Morgan Stoner earned bronze.
Wagner overwhelmed Iona College 145-85, smothered Sacred Heart University with a score of 159-63, and overpowered St. Francis Brooklyn 158-64.
The Green & White return to action on Saturday, November 2, when they travel to Emmitsburg, MD to face Mount St. Mary's.
