Huffman Finishes In Top Three At Monmouth Invitational

Final Results

Lakewood, NJ –
Behind a career-best third place from sophomore Ellen Huffman (Lima, OH / Lima Central Catholic), the Wagner College women's golf team picked up a sixth place team finish at the Monmouth Invitational this weekend.

Huffman came out firing right from day one, posting a plus-six, 78, in the opening round, before besting her previous score by one stroke on day two, carding a 77, to put her in a tie for third place at the conclusion of the two-day event.

“I am excited for Ellen,” said head coach Christopher Fourman. “This was a super start to the spring season as she prepares to compete against the best golfers in the conference at the Northeast Conference championships in a few weeks.  We definitely have things to work on to score better as a team and we need to do a better job of taking care of the golf ball.  As we continue to practice harder in the coming weeks, I am confident that we will come together as a team.”

Huffman finished 24 shots ahead of Wagner's second-place golfer, freshman Kathryn Jimerson (El Paso, TX / Coronado), who scored a 179 (92-87), finishing in a tie for 30th place. Just three shots back from Jimerson was junior Miko Page (Brooklyn, NY / Edward R Murrow), shooting a two-round score of 182 (87-95).

The Blackbirds of Long Island – Brooklyn took home the meets team title, scoring a 628. Wagner's team score of 706, put them ahead of NEC foes Quinnipiac and St. Francis (NY).

The Seahawks will have a weekend off from competition before making the trip to Suffern, NY, for the Columbia Invitational beginning on April 13th.
