Box Score Syracuse, NY – The Wagner College women's basketball team fell to Syracuse, 66-28, in a non-conference game at the Carrier Dome on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 1-6, while the Orange improves to 8-1.
Sophomore
Jacqui Thompson (Southampton, PA/ St. Basil Academy) led the Green & White offensively with a season-high 12 points. Thompson was tied for the team lead in rebounds with another second-year Seahawk,
Ugo Nwaigwe (Valley Stream, NY/ Valley Stream South), as each player grabbed five boards.
Thompson hit a three-pointer with 5:44 to play in the first half, pulling Wagner within one at 16-15. From there, the Orange went on an 11-2 run going into the locker room, capped off by Syracuse's Rachel Coffey picking up a loose ball and hitting a straightaway three to send her team to the half up, 27-17.
The two teams would trade baskets for the first eight minutes of the second stanza, at which point the Seahawks trailed, 38-26, going into the under-12 media timeout with 11:48 remaining. From that point, Syracuse outscored Wagner, 28-2, for the remainder of the game, extending the lead to the final margin.
Kayla Alexander led the Orange with a career-high 34 points, while grabbing 13 rebounds.
The Seahawks return to action on Monday, Dec. 17 at 7:00 pm, when Wagner travels to Durham, NH to take on New Hampshire of the America East.
