Syracuse, NY -
Brandon Triche scored a game-high 21 points to lead No. 8 Syracuse to an 88-57 victory over Wagner in front of 17,273 fans at the Carrier Dome. The Orange improves to 2-0 on the year with their 23rd-straight home win, while the Seahawks fall to 0-2.

In defeat, senior Jonathon Williams (Richmond, CA / Kennedy / City College of San Francisco) narrowly missed his second career double-double, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds. On the year, the Golden State native is averaging 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting 56.5 percent (13-for-23) from the floor.

Joining Williams in double figures was junior Kenneth Ortiz (Newark, NJ / Science Park / Southern Mississippi), who scored 11 points with three assists and two steals.

Syracuse scored the game's first five points en route to opening up an 11-5 lead at the 14:41 mark.  Wagner immediately responded with an Ortiz jumper, before sophomore Marcus Burton (Charlotte, NC / David W. Butler) canned his first three pointer of the afternoon. Freshman Eric Fanning (Trenton, NJ / Perkiomen (PA)) then stole the ball, and junior Latif Rivers (Elizabeth, NJ / Avon Old Farms (CT)) capitalized with a three pointer, capping an 8-0 run that giving the Seahawks their first lead of the game at 13-11 with 13:04 to play.

In continuing with the game of runs theme, the Orange responded with seven-straight points in building an 18-13 lead with 11:09 to play. Freshman Dwaun Anderson (Suttons Bay, MI / Suttons Bay / Michigan State) then answered on the other end with a three pointer, before Williams converted a layup and Burton a free throw in reclaiming the lead for the Green & White at 19-18 with 10:00 until halftime.

Unfortunately, that would be the last lead of the day for Wagner as Syracuse ripped off eight-straight points to fuel a half-ending 18-4 run that make it a 36-23 at intermission. In the opening stanza, the Seahawk defense limited the Orange to just 36.1 percent (13-for-36) shooting, including a paltry 10.0 percent (1-for-10) from long distance. However, the Green & White was not able to capitalize, converting on just 25.0 percent (8-for-32) from the floor while turning the ball over 10 times.

Syracuse picked up where it left off before halftime, opening the second stanza with 10-3 spurt that extended the lead to 46-26 with 17:20 to play. The Orange, which shot 67.9 percent (19-for-27) in the second half, would see the lead grow to 34 points, before coming away with the 88-57 win.

For the game, Syracuse controlled the glass by a 49-36 margin, which led to a 44-28 advantage in points in the paint, and forced 23 turnovers that led to a 29-15 edge in points off turnovers.

Moussa Baye Keita scored all 15 of his points after halftime while James Southerland added 15 points, rounding out the double-figure scorers for the Orange.

Wagner continues its season-opening four-game road trip with a 1:00 pm matinee at North Carolina Central on Saturday, November 24.
