Wagner Clipped By St. Francis (NY) 4-3

Staten Island, NY - Wagner dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to St. Francis (NY) in men's tennis action at the Wagner Tennis Courts. The marathon match lasted for approximately five hours and 20 minutes as the teams jostled throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

The Terriers claimed the first point of the match in doubles play by virtue of their wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Despite dropping the point, the sophomore duo of Danil Ovechkin (Staten Island, NY / Pendleton School (FL)) and David Garzon (Guttenberg, NJ / Memorial) notched an 8-4 win at first doubles.

In singles play, Ovechkin needed three sets to claim his third-straight victory at No. 1, defeating Danlahdi Robinson by scores of 3-6, 6-1 and 6-2. At No. 2 singles, Garzon was victorious over James Brennan-Tsang in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

St. Francis (NY) got on the board with a win at No. 5 singles before junior Christian Rautenstrauch (Charlotte, NC / Providence Day) gave Wagner a 3-2 lead with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Rafael Angobaldo at No. 6 singles.

Unfortunately, the Terriers rebounded with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles to win the match.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, October 8 at 1:00 pm with a match against Siena.
