Jersey City, NJ –
Junior Katie Keown (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) scored the game's lone goal in the second overtime session to lift the Wagner College women's soccer team past Saint Peter's in the 2011 regular season opener.

The Seahawks set the pace of the game from the opening kickoff, building quality scoring chances from their controlled possession. Junior midfielder Monica Zurich (Montvale, NJ/Pascack Hills) led the way for the Green & White by blasting four shots, forcing the Peacock's goalkeeper, Caitlin Hoffer, to make crucial saves.

Wagner's defensive group shut down a talented Saint Peter's offense, not allowing a single shot until the 62nd minute. While sophomore netminder Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY / John F. Kennedy) wasn't tested often, the Seahawk backline held strong coming up with multiple team saves to preserve the shutout.

With neither team able to find the back of the net after 90 minutes of play, the Seahawks readied themselves for overtime. Keown's 25-yard bomb came just two minutes into the second OT frame as her shot bounced over Hoffer and into the cage to seal the Wagner victory.

The win marks the first time that head coach Mike Minielli has beaten the Peacocks since taking over the program in 2006.

The Seahawks will be back in action on Wednesday, August 24, when they travel to Howard University for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
