Wagner Drops Conference Opener to Marist

Poughkeepsie, NY – Despite a season-high three goals from senior Carina Giles (Mohton, PA / Governor Mifflin), Wagner's water polo team was unable to overcome a one point deficit as the Seahawks dropped the conference opener to the Red Foxes.

Tied at 3-3 at the conclusion of the first quarter, the Seahawks were unable to capitalize in the second quarter as Marist went up 4-3 heading into the second half. Both teams found the back of the net six times during the final 16 minutes, but Marist's one goal advantage proved to be the deciding factor as Wagner was downed 10-9.

Senior co-captain Giles led the Seahawks with three goals, one assist and two steals. The Keystone State native currently stands second on the team in assists with 28 and fourth in steals with 18.

Junior top-scorers Lauren French (Colmar, PA / North Penn) and Chelsea Beck (Reading, PA / Wilson) added two goals and two assists apiece for the Seahawks. Beck has amassed an impressive 39 goals and 34 assists for a total of 73 points on the season while French currently stands in second with 34 goals and 14 assists.

Also scoring for the Seahawks were Becca Hannings (Lansdale, PA / North Penn) and Sidney Hoshko (Coronado, CA / Coronado), who each scored once. Hannings is currently ranked third in goals with 26 as Hoshko leads the freshman class in goals with a total of 16.
