Hamden, CT – Freshman attack
Sam Morin (Rockville Center, NY/ South Side), who scored the game-winning goal with 21 seconds left in last Sunday's thrilling comeback win over Saint Francis (PA), continued her fine play with a career-high three goals vs. Quinnipiac but it was not enough as the Seahawks dropped a 16-6 decision to the Bobcats.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 3-10 overall, 2-4 in the Northeast Conference while the Bobcats improve to 8-4, 5-1 in conference play.
Junior midfielder
Lauren Petrik (Syracuse, NY/ Baldwinsville) scored one goal and assisted on two others, junior midfielder
Carolyn Clark (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) added one goal and one assist while junior midfielder
Melanie Garces (San Diego, CA/ Westview) also notched a goal for the Seahawks.
Freshman
Morgan Roach (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) and senior
Marcela Hernandez (Freeport, NY/ Freeport) combined for 11 saves in goal for Wagner. Senior defender
Carly Lyster (Oakhurst, NJ/ Ocean Township) scooped up a team-high six ground balls and leads the team in that category with 36. Clark continues to lead the team in goals (22) and points (27) while Petrik remains the team leader in assists (13) and is second on the team in points (22).
Laura Iannotti paced Quinnipiac with four goals while Marissa Caroleo and Lianne Toomey added three goals apiece. Goalies Noelle Martello and Lexi DeStefano combined for eight saves for the Bobcats.
Quinnipiac out-shot Wagner 29-14, held an 18-13 edge in ground balls and led 18-6 in draw controls. The Bobcats were 2-of-4 on free-position shots while the Seahawks were 0-of-1.
Wagner is next in action on Sunday, April 17 when the Seahawks travel to Fairfield, CT to meet the Pioneers of Sacred Heart. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
