Seahawks Fall To Saint Joseph's 5-0 In First Game Of Day Two

Box Score

Clearwater, FL –
Saint Joseph's pitcher Erin Gallagher allowed only two Wagner hits, as the Seahawks fell to the Hawks 5-0 in the teams third game of the South Florida Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, FL.

The Hawks came out swinging in the first, knocking four straight singles with two outs, bringing in two early runs and putting the Seahawks in a quick hole, 2-0.

Sophomore right-hander Judy Betz (Ashburn, VA) calmed down in the second inning, going 1-2-3 with some defensive help from Alyssa McCulloch (East Brunswick, NJ) at third and Kristen Matteoni (Reno, NV) at second.

Wagner got its bats going in the top of the third as Vanessa Lenart (Fontana, CA) gave the Seahawks their first hit of the game with two outs, singling down the right field line. Saint Joseph's pitcher Erin Gallagher followed up the hit by getting Hailey Corthell (Reno, NV) to ground out to the shortstop to end the inning.

After Betz continued her momentum in the bottom of the third, throwing another perfect three-out inning, freshman Taylor Rauscher (Peoria, AZ) led off the top of the fourth lining a single at the third baseman. Matteoni's sacrifice bunt advanced Rauscher to second, but back-to-back groundouts ended the inning with the score still at 2-0.

Saint Joseph's would add one more tally to the scoreboard when Dana Bieniek led off the bottom half of the fourth reaching base on an infield error. A stolen base and a single to right field easily scored Bieniek, extending the Hawks lead to 3-0.

Much like the Hawks third run, Saint Joseph's put up their fourth run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Dana Parks' singled up the middle and stole second before being driven home on a single through the left side by Bernadette Moran. Moran would score later in the inning, pushing the Hawks to a 5-0 lead.

Gallagher and her defense set down the next nine straight Seahawks to cap off a 5-0 win, earning their sixth win of the year, while the Green and White drop to 0-3 early in the season.

Wagner will face Bethune-Cookman in its second game of the day beginning at 3:00 PM. A live video and audio steaming of the game will be provided by www.tsltv.com.
