Riverdale, NY – Sophomore attack Annie O'Connor (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) scored three goals and four other Seahawks tallied one goal apiece but it was not enough as Manhattan ended the first half with five consecutive goals en route to a 12-7 come-from-behind victory at Gaelic Stadium.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 0-2 on the season while the Jaspers improve to 1-1.

Wagner got out of the gates quickly, racing out to a 3-1 lead with 16:34 remaining in the first half on goals by sophomore attack Erika Bulken ( Syracuse, NY / C.W. Baker), O'Connor and junior midfielder Lauren Petrik (Syracuse, NY/ Baldwinsville). It was at this point when the Jaspers reeled off five straight goals, two from Maria Toscano, in seizing a 6-3 halftime lead. Phelicia VanOverbeke opened the second half scoring with a goal at the 26:13 mark to open the lead up the Manhattan lead to 7-3. After freshman midfielder Leea Sinay Marcellus, NY / Marcellus) found the back of the cage off a Bulken assist to make it 7-4, Manhattan responded with a three-goal splurge to build a commanding 10-4 lead.

VanOverbeke and Toscano paced Manhattan with three goals apiece while Tara Convery and Kelsey Rehain added two goals each. In addition to O'Connor's hat trick, Wagner received single goals from junior midfielder Carolyn Clark (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill), Bulken, Sinay, and Petrik. Bulken added two assists while Clark, Petrik and Sinay each recorded one assist.

Manhattan out-shot Wagner 34-28 and led in ground balls 33-28 while the Seahawks held a 12-8 edge in draw controls. Wagner was 0-for-8 on free position shots while the Jaspers were 3-of-8. In goal, senior Marcela Hernandez (Freeport, NY/ Freeport) came up with 13 saves while Julia DiBernardo had 11 saves in goal for Manhattan.

Today's game marked the first of a five-game stretch away from Grymes Hill for the Seahawks who will take part in two games in High Point, NC during Spring Break next week. On March 7 at 4:00 pm, Wagner will face Presbyterian before meeting the host school, High Point, on March 10 at 6:00 pm.
