Latif Rivers (Elizabeth, NJ / Avon Old Farms (CT)) also notched 10 markers, rounding out double-figure scorers for the Green & White.
Down seven at the half, Mount St. Mary's whittled the lead to four at 33-29 with 16:18 to play in the game before Wagner ripped off seven-straight points, and 10-of-11 in extending the lead out to a game-high 13. After converting just 37.0 percent of their shots in the first half, the Seahawks drilled six of their first eight in assuming a 43-30 advantage with 14:14 to play.
The Mountaineers would continue to fight, drawing to within one point at 66-65 following Lamar Trice's three pointer with just over two seconds to play. However, Rivers and senior #T.J. Czeski# (Amsterdam, NY / Amsterdam) each hit a pair from the line in providing the final 70-65 tally.
Wagner shot a season-best 66.7 percent (12-18) from the floor in the second half en route to 48.9 percent (22-45) for the game, but managed to hit on just 30.8 percent (4-13) from beyond the arc. The Seahawks did convert 78.6 percent (22-28) from the line, including 80.0 percent (16-20), while also handing out 15 assists and are now 11-1 (7-1 NEC) when notching at least 14.
Up two just over two minutes into the game, Wagner took control with a 9-3 run, highlighted by five points from Martin while opening up a 15-7 lead at the13:34 mark of the first. Mount St. Mary's rallied with six-straight points before sophomore
Danny Mundweiler (Overland Park, KS / Olathe East) drained a pair of three pointers, sandwiched between a Mountaineer lay-up, pushing the lead out to 21-15 with 5:42 to play. Mundweiler would finish with six points and a career-best four rebounds in 24 minutes of action. The Seahawks would push the lead out to a half-high 10 before entering halftime up 29-22.
Wagner assumed a seven-point halftime lead thanks to a suffocating defense that pressured Mount St. Mary's into 14 miscues, leading to a 16-5 advantage in points off turnovers. The Mountaineers also shot just 33.3 percent (5-15), including 0-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Trice scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in the second half, leading the way for Mount St. Mary's while Atupem added 12 points and a game-high seven rebounds. The Mountaineers shot 46.3 percent (19-41) for the game, including 53.8 percent (14-26) in the second half, 35.7 percent (5-14) from beyond the arc, including 50.0 percent (5-10) after halftime, and 73.3 percent (22-30) from the line.
