Women's Soccer Falls To Temple, 2-0

Box Score

Staten Island, NY –
The Wagner College women's soccer team dropped its fifth straight game, 2-0, to Temple University in today's non-conference matchup at Wagner Stadium.

The Seahawks offense had the games first quality scoring chance, after senior Jessica Balling (Seaford, NY) played a low cross in to Julie Vigliotti (Staten Island, NY) who had slipped past the Temple defense. Vigliotti's one-timed shot darted just over the cross bar, as she sophomore looked for her sixth goal of the season.

Senior Briana Vassallo (Saddle Brook, NJ) had her first chance of the game when she picked up a loose ball just inside the 18-yard box and blasted a shot high.

Wagner goalkeeper Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY) was tested in the opening few minutes, making two diving saves to keep the game at a scoreless tie.

Temple broke the tie with 11 minutes left in the first half when a give-and-go passing play between sisters Kate and Allicia Yurkovic got the Owls inside the penalty area. Kate Yurkovic's right-footed shot beat Marcy inside the left post to give the visitors the 1-0 lead heading into the break.

The Owls built upon their lead early in the second half when Niki Conn dribbled past a Seahawk defender and placed a shot into the lower left side of the cage to score her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Sophomore Monica Zurich (Montvale, NJ) had the Seahawks best scoring opportunity in the second half, as she volleyed a bouncing ball with her left that was saved by Owls keeper Tara Murphy.

Murphy ended the game with six saves, while Marcy recorded five for the Seahawks. With the loss, Wagner falls to 4-7-0, while the Owls move to 5-5-0.

The Seahawks take to the field next on Friday, October 1, as they take on the Bobcats of Quinnipiac University at 3:00 pm at Wagner Stadium.
