Brooklyn, NY – The Wagner College men's golf team took the short trip across the bridge to Brooklyn, NY, and defeated the St. Francis (NY) Terriers by 13 strokes in Friday's dual match with the Terriers.
Brooklyn's Dyker Beach Golf Course played host to 18-hole fall season match, with Wagner's
Steve Nakajima (Delta British Columbia, Canada) shooting a one-over 73 to earn the individual victory. Freshmen
Tommy Arison (Fairlawn, OH) and
Jan Saroch (Prague, Czech Republic) each shot 79's on the day, earning second place finishes with St. Francis' David Smith, who also shot a seven-over 79.
The Seahawks four-man score of 313 was rounded off by freshman
Eric Mathias (Martinsburg, WV) who shot an 82 and tying for sixth place.
Wagner, who had four of the top six golfers on the day, bested the home town terriers by 13 strokes, as St. Francis put up scores of 79, 80, 82 and 85 for a combined score of 326.
Jason Hopkins (Menifee, CA),
Lucas Grant (Schenectady, NY) and
Alex Carson (North Salem, NY) also contributed scores of 84, 85 and 91, respectively, for the Seahawks.
The men will head to the Monmouth Invitational on Thursday, September 23rd, for their next all day tournament.
