BOX SCORE

Smithfield, RI –
Senior midfielder Teri Noll (Elbridge, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) and sophomore midfielder Carolyn Clark (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) tallied four goals apiece to carry Wagner to a thrilling 15-14 double-overtime win over Bryant.

Clark scored the game-winner on a free position shot with 5:16 left in the second OT to give Wagner the victory. Clark leads the Seahawks with 24 goals on the season.

In winning their second consecutive game, the Seahawks improve to 3-8 on the season, 2-3 in the Northeast Conference while the Bulldogs fall to 2-9 overall and 2-3 in league play.

Wagner got out of the gate fast, racing out to a 3-0 lead, with Clark scoring two of the goals and sophomore midfielder Melanie Garces (San Diego, CA/Westview) scoring the other tally. All three of these early goals came via free position shots. Bryant came storming back to trim the deficit to 7-6 at halftime.

With the score tied at 9-9, the Bulldgos notched three unanswered goals to take a seemingly comfortable 12-9 lead with just 8:20 remaining in regulation. The “never say die” Seahawks, however, then answered with three straight goals of their own to make it a 12-12 game at the end of regulation. The goals were scored by freshman midfielder Erika Bulken (Syracuse, NY/C.W. Baker), Noll and freshman attack Annie O'Connor (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) who scored the game-tying goal with just 2:08 left in regulation

Noll and Bulken tallied the first two goal of overtime to put Wagner on top 14-12. Undaunted, Bryant came back with two goals of their own, the latter coming with seven seconds left in the first overtime which tied the game at 14-14.

By rule, whoever scores the first goal of the second overtime is the winner and it was Clark who won the game by sinking a free position shot with 5:16 left in the second overtime.

In addition to Clark and Noll's four-goal games, Wagner had three players who scored two goals apiece in O'Connor, Bulken and junior attack Karen Vitkus (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles). Senior Alex Johnston (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) had seven saves in goal for the Seahawks.

Meg Atha scored four goals on the afternoon to pace Bryant.

Statistically, Wager out-shot Bryant 40-31 and led in ground balls 28-25 while the Bulldogs led an 18-15 advantage in draw controls. Wagner converted 6-of-13 free position shots while Bryant was 4-of-10 on free position shots.

The Seahawks are next in action on Wednesday, April 7 when they play host to Quinnipiac in a 4:00 pm contest.

NOTES – Teri Noll has scored nine goals in Wagner's last two games, as she had a five-goal game in Wagner's 17-12 win at Central Connecticut St. on April 1. The Bryant game marked the second time Wagner has played an overtime game this season as the Seahawks dropped a 13-12 OT decision at Saint Francis (PA) on March 19.
