Poughkeepsie, NY – The Wagner College Water Polo team (17-20, 6-4 MAAC) finished the year on a high note with a 9-6 win over Siena College in the consolation round of the 2010 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship Tournament.
A back and forth affair between the two teams had the Seahawks and Saints tied 3-3 headed into the fourth period. A 6-3 Wagner run was the difference – sparked by sophomore
Lauren French (Shillington, PA/North Penn), who scored three consecutive transition goals to seal the win.
In addition to French, junior
Natalie Pyrz (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area), junior
Laura Vanderbent (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin), and sophomore
Becca Hannings (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) pitched in with two goals apiece.
Freshmen
Katie Jordan (Westlake Village, CA/Agoura) and
Monique Martinet (Mission Viego, CA/Mission Viejo) added career-highs in assists with two helpers each. Junior
Carina Giles (Mohton, PA/Governor Mifflin) finished with one assist in the win, as well.
Senior goalie
Kelsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Canyon/Fullerton JC) made 14 saves. Freshman goalie
Laura Karbach (Abington, PA/Germantown Academy) made one save in the closing minutes of the game.
