Center Valley, PA- The Wagner College men's golf team finished 19th last weekend at the Lafayette Invitational held at the par 72, 6916 yard Center Valley Golf Course.
Sophomore
Steve Nakajima (Delta British Columbia, Canada / Delta Secondary Schoo) led the way for the Green & White, finishing 63rd in the 105 man field. Nakajima finished with a two round score of 161 (81/80). Junior
Connor Popp (Syracuse, NY / Westhill) completed the event tied for 99th with a 177 (93/84) while junior
Brian Conlan (Highland Mills, NY / John S. Burke Catholic) garnered 101st with his mark of 186 (92/94). Rounding out the squad of Seahawk competitors were freshman
Lucas Grant (Schenectady, NY / Schenectady HS) and senior
William Rassman (Rochester, NY), carding two round totals of 191 (104/87) and 211 (111/100), respectively.
“Steve played two very consistent rounds of golf this weekend,” said Assistant Coach
Chris Fourman. “His 81 on Saturday I felt was a little better than the 80 on Sunday because of the brutal winds we were playing in. From what I saw on the golf course, Steve's game is coming around and if he can tighten up his belt around the greens he will start to score lower for us.”
"I felt like I was hitting the ball better and I played a lot of really good golf,” said Nakajima. “But a few big numbers snuck up on me and inflated the scores, particularly because I was not making the 4-6 foot putts to get myself out of a bad hole. I did, however, start to make some birdies this weekend, and that is a good sign."
Wagner returns to action Tuesday, April 20th when the Seahawks travel to Neshanic Station, NJ to compete in the Peacock Invitational.
