Poughkeepsie, NY – Five goals apiece from sophomore
Lauren French (Shillington, PA/North Penn) and junior
Laura Vanderbent (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) lifted the Wagner College Water Polo team (13-17, 3-2 MAAC) over the Siena College Saints, 15-7, on Sunday. The Seahawks claimed their third Conference win of the season, with one MAAC opponent, St. Francis (NY), remaining on this weekend's schedule.
The offensive shoot out started with both teams scoring four times in the opening period. The Seahawks, however, were able to keep the momentum running in the second period – tacking on four more goals to take an 8-5 lead at halftime. Wagner's defense stiffened from there, allowing just two goals as the Seahawks rattled off seven second-half goals for the 15-7 win.
French and Vanderbent led the way with five goals apiece. Five goals scored in a game is a new career-high for Vanderbent and matches French's career-high set yesterday. Vanderbent maintained her lead in the team standings with 45 goals scored, while French moved into second place with 42 markers.
