Lakewood, NJ- The Wagner College men's golf team finished in 12th place last weekend at the par 72, 6886 yards Eagle Ridge Golf Course hosted by Monmouth University.
Sophomore
Steve Nakajima (Delta British Columbia, Canada / Delta Secondary School) turned in the best finish for the Seahawks with a 167 (87-80) which tied for 51st-place. Junior captain
Connor Popp (Syracuse, NY / Westhill) finished in 52nd-place, posting rounds of 83-87(170). Rounding out the pack for the Seahawks were junior
Brian Conlan (Highland Mills, NY / John S. Burke Catholic), freshman
Lucas Grant (Schenectady, NY / Schenectady HS) and freshman
Alex Carson (North Salem, NY), who carded scores of 180, 183 and 200, respectively.
“The scores from this weekend are clearly not where we want to be as a team going into the spring season. Connor, Steve, and Brian are all disappointed with their individual performances from the weekend and they understand that they are going to have to continue working week in and week out to find their competitive grooves,” said assistant coach
Chris Fourman. “We also ran out two golfers, Carson and Grant, who were playing in their first collegiate event."
“Considering the terrible weather and increased pressure that comes with playing in a competitive event, we are pleased with their contribution to the team and think that they can use their experience this weekend to better their results going forward,” he added. “It definitely isn't easy to jump into a college golf tournament and we commend their finishes this weekend."
Wagner returns to action Friday, April 9th when the Seahawks travel to Easton, PA to face Lafayette College.
